Ugulu and Movement Negation

L5R CCG Rules board, 7 November 2012 to 8 November 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Given the ongoing negation ruling of viewtopic.php?f=59&t=100339:

If Ugulu negates a personality's movement to a battlefield, is that personality then disallowed to move anywhere for the remainder of the turn even if Ugulu is not present?

Ugulu: Before a Human Personality moves to Ugulu's battlefield: Negate his movement.

He just negates the triggering movement.

Duration and scope of prevention effects: If the effect's wording prevents a specific future occurrence that triggered the effect, instead of a general type of occurrence, then the prevention is a single delayed instantaneous effect.

Hi folks,

Following up to viewtopic.php?f=59&t=100446 (Ugulu movement) and viewtopic.php?f=59&t=100339 (Incense Mill negation)

Just to be clear, so Reaction negation is instance-only, whereas Battle/Limited/Open negation can have blanket effects? (Unless the reaction explicitly says "negate all future.." or something to that effect)

No, it depends on the trigger.

If a triggered trait or a Reaction (noting that Ugulu has a triggered trait, not a Reaction, but the same rule applies) is triggered by an effect and negates that same effect, that's all it does. However, a Reaction that is triggered by a timing point rather than by an effect, for example "Before an Action resolves" or "After your Personality is targeted", will typically create a ongoing effect that can negate multiple effects.
