Hello everyone! I'm looking through some cards and noticed a set of cards for Twenty Festivals. Does anyone know what the deal is with these cards? It seems like they're a separate legality but they're set in Ivory Edition. Does anyone know the story behind this?

Messages from the Oracle of the Void #rules Discord channel, copied for Oracle of the Void. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings and the rulebooks may differ.
They were working on turning the game into more of a rolling system where the base sets were more incremental.
As a player, it was a solid idea, but the game ended before we could figure out if it was good in practice
Ok so for legality does Twenty Festivals work with the rest of Ivory Edition, or these cards meant to be played separately?
The easiest way to explain it is to pick a bug (or two, or five) and say "this is the legality"
Ivory had the purple bug, 20f had the blue one
There was a planned format that would have included both, but idk if any events actually materialized
Ok so that's why it appears separate but the intent may have been to put them together at some point?
Pretty much. Like Kiyoteryu said, it was planned to be rolling, so you could have Strict (one bug), Arc (the last two bugs) or Extended (three)
Making it function a little bit more like a smoother version of how WotC was doing Standard rotation back in the day
A new set would roll in, push the oldest out of Extended, everything would shift down one
Ok that's awesome
On paper
In practice, I dont recall any Arc tournaments materializing- all the kotei i went to were Strict
I'm going through some of my old cards right now and would like to fix up some of my Ivory Edition decks. I have a stack of TF and wasn't sure what to do with them
There's really no reason not to mix them in with your Ivory
Unless someone runs a "strict ivory" tourney you want to play in
Apparently unpopular opinion- Ivory did a lot of good rules wise. It simplified a lot in a game where there is a lot of rules bloat. However the card pool was a hard correction from Emperor, one of the strongest environments they printed.
20F had slightly better worded rules after the re-write, and a better cardbase.
I reccomend playing 20f, strict or arc (so blue bugs, or blue and/or purple) to benefit from that. Ivory only is okay, but is a bit...pillow-fisted
'Course, that's only if you want to play with your actual cards.
My other reccomendation is to look at the Onyx Lives stuff. It continues off the 20F base rules and is all print-to-play, but its a very well balanced environment.
Arc. Strict Kotei were really rare.
Were they? I thought i remember them all being Strict- Ivory didn't have Arc when it was main, as the whole point was to phase out Emperor so the only legal Emperor cards were the lead up sets, and I dont recall purple being legal in 20F kotei.
However, admittedly, it has been quite some time, so I could be misremembering
Ivory Strict was since base set while most popular Ivory Arc included cards from bridge EE/Ivory expansions like CoM, AM and GoC.
Gencon 2014 was also Ivory Arc.
Huh. The more you know.
Hi everyone. Does anyone here know anything about Dark Naga or the Dark Naga expansion? I have some friends who played it around Emperor Edition or Ivory Edition time. I've been trying to find more about it but have been having a hard time finding out anything about any of the cards that were in it
Iirc the dark naga had some cards in Emperor and Ivory, as an Unaligned personality, but if youre really interested, you should pick up a copy of Siege: Heart of Darkness.
The naga cards were not standard legal, but its a cool set
Ok this was 100% what they were playing. I remember they had a multiplayer game going against a really OP dark Naga deck. This fits the bill. I will look out for a set myself. Thank you! 😊
These questions are probably more suited for the main l5r channel, as they're not rules related though
