i see. thanks!
not sure if this is really a rules question, but can i get a bit more context on why Chuda is listed as an unaligned family name in the 20f CR (instead of Spider)?

The Chuda split with the Spider in Emperor. They weren't folded back in until after 20F (which the CR was/is contemporary with), in Thunderous Acclaim.
i see. thanks!
Hm, I feel like I know the answer to this one, but I’ve seen a few surprising answers lately - The event Alliance, Spirit isn’t a viable Clan choice is it? Like, Monk and Ninja were, so … why not? That said, it never dawned on me to consider, but when I started reading the rules section here, I kept seeing that only Sparrow “was a clan only when playing the Stronghold” so … that’d make Spirit an official clan as they have a Stronghold, no?
Depends on the format. If you're playing Jade / Open (Clan Wars + Jade) arcs, then it should be a valid choice.
Ah, ok, very interesting. Thank you!
Also in Legacy Formats, yes, Spirit is a Faction, but in some, its Stronghold is banned. This doesn't make it "not a Faction", though.
Ah, yes, understood. I realize it probably would have been helpful to clarify that I was looking at a silly Jade ex. (Cutting off at Spirit Wars) deck and noticed I had a handful of Spirits in it. I couldn’t argue in my head why it wouldn’t work, but it also just felt weird (especially as some were pre-Spirit Wars).
Cards were released within arcs building up to future strongholds. Quite common.
Or just "were" before they became a Faction. Plenty of pre-DJH Ninja. 😉
Thank you very much for your time!
Huh, another weird question I suspect I know the answer to (and was likely common at one point in time, if correct) if I use Dragon Pearl on Blade of Secrets, does it copy the bonuses already generated by playing the original Blade of Secrets and will it also trigger the opportunity to discard for an additional bonus again for coming into play? Or would it do some partial version of any of that?
Yes it copies the current permanent bonuses already on the original Blade, and no you can't discard again. But all that is pretty evident in either copy of the Pearl's text.
Ok, thanks
Yup, sorry, I should have re-read it. I was reading a similar situation last night that revolved around the broken sword of the scorpion and Immortal Steel, didn’t stop to think about the entering play element.
S'okay. 🙂
Thank you again, I appreciate the time!
