Good morning. Getting ready to play some Clan Wars era decks with new players, and still brushing up on the rules (using SCC). So the five elemental rings are not unique. So more than one ring of the same type could be in play at the same time? I am trying to remember 1995-1999 gaming days, and I don't remember that being an issue.

Another question. I found a great link to some very old decks. Only problem is, it appears that none of the Scorpion Deck links are archived on the way-back machine. Does anyone know of alternative sites where Clan Wars era decks, especially Scorpion, might be stored? http://web.archive.org/web/20000421181014/http://www.cowell.org/~andy/cgi-bin/decks/list.pl?sh=8

^ It's from SCC rulebook

So, yes, in the Clan War, Unique was a global restriction covering all players' control, and the Rings are not Unique, thus you putting one into play will not prevent another player from putting the same Ring out as well. But, as Kempy notes above, you can only include 1 copy of each in your deck.

Later in the game's life, the Rings became Unique at the same the "Unique" Rule was changed to only apply to each player, not globally.

By the way, while the SCC rules I was pointed to were definitely helpful, I found many of the pages' lower halves very hard to read. I took apart a few of my old SCC booklets and did a fresh scan, and created a new pdf - 2 rule pages per letter page. I would be happy to share this new pdf, but I don't have any public-facing sites. Is there a site where this file would be desired?

I could put it into my DropBox https://www.dropbox.com/sh/vsabdrqgcqfqepp/AACNYaigHIRNTZvZVRq9K0joa?dl=0

I would be happy to share there. I am only on the free version of dropbox, I don't see a way for me to drop my pdf there. What do we have to do?

If it is not huge just send me attached to pm.

In rulesets that allow clan discount, does the minimum gold cost set by Shibata Sensei already take clan discount into consideration or will I still be able to recruit for less than 5?

Answers on: Shibata Sensei
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 15 October 2024 23:04 · in reply

Minimums and maximums are always applied last, so the -2 for Clan Discount would not let you go lower than 5 with Shibata.

Wow. That Sensei would be a hoot on The Ruined Fortress of the Scorpion.

"Open: Target a Ring which did not last enter play by its own text:" - what does the last enter play mean? Is it required that the target Ring entered play last turn or should it be the latest Ring that entered play?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 29 October 2024 23:32 · in reply

If the Ring most recently came into play via some effect other than its own text. Such as "Finding the Harmony", as an example.

A player, 29 October 2024 23:34

Ah. So the action can only target the latest Ring that entered into play that did not enter by its own text. Got it.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 29 October 2024 23:35 · in reply

Not just the latest. Any such Ring, so long as the latest time it entered played was by another effect.

A player, 30 October 2024 03:12

So technically, it's "target a Ring that did not enter play by its own text"?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 30 October 2024 03:15 · in reply

Well, yes, but only looking at the last time it entered play. Say, if you put in Air by its own text once, pulled it out with "Finding", then put it back into play again with another "Finding", it's a legal target, even though it did enter by its own text at a previous point in the game.

A textual solution for card memory?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 30 October 2024 11:46 · in reply

Or just simple clarity. With it stated explicitly, fewer people should hopefully ask if the above Air-Finding-Finding situation makes the Ring an invalid target or not. Also "how this entered play" is a more nebulous application of the card memory Rule than game-states which directly affect (only) the card itself, like ongoing effects or OPT use.

A player, 30 October 2024 11:53

True. I was contemplating if it were a case like waaaaaaay back when I played MtG, there were cards that had similar but much more awkward lines that were solved when they created the concept of card memory. Admittedly, that created a lot more issues in the short term.
