Do you need a personality in your army to use Shinjo's ability or will her movement satisfy the rule of presence. Asking for a friend.

Yes, it will satisfy Presence. Apologies for not having her fully updated to wording most compatible with the current Comprehensive Rules in the Oracle; some of the cards are still in only Emperor-Edition compliant states.

Hoshi Maseru + Blessings of Isawa: Does that mean that I can cast the same Kiho twice on the turn it gets Blessed, providing he hasn't yet cast a Kiho that turn? (Once as a regular Kiho, it then becomes a printed ability on him, he unbows with his Reaction, and can then case it as his ability?)

A player, 14 February 2024 05:01

You can't actually cast the Kiho twice

A player, 14 February 2024 05:02

You cast the Kiho, Maseru straightens and gains the ability, then he could possibly bow to use the ability.

A player, 14 February 2024 05:03

But I think the mechanic definition means it stops being a Kiho, because neither Maseru nor the event specifcally state it's a Kiho ability.

saaam (not official), 14 February 2024 05:03

Right. That's what I meant. On the turn it becomes an ability, can I use its effects twice.

saaam (not official), 14 February 2024 05:03

Hrm.

A player, 14 February 2024 05:03

You could use the Kiho, straighten Maseru, and then use his new ability, because that becomes a different effect entirely.

saaam (not official), 14 February 2024 05:04

Yeah okay. That works!

A player, 14 February 2024 05:04

That also depends on if you're playing Maseru in his own era, or a different ruleset. :P

Next question, does Dharma Technique target? It sounds like it doesn't, with both the original and updated wording.

saaam (not official), 14 February 2024 05:05

His own era. Jade Ext.

A player, 14 February 2024 05:05

Just it's important that his ability isn't a Kiho, for the sake of cards that check for multiple Kiho use per turn.

A player, 14 February 2024 05:06

I am... 90% certain Dharma does not target the Event it is cancelling

saaam (not official), 14 February 2024 05:06

You're absolutely right, I just misworded my original question. Just meant I get to use the effect twice in one turn in that circumstance.

saaam (not official), 14 February 2024 05:06

Hmm. Neat-o.

saaam (not official), 14 February 2024 05:07

So I can Dharma Tech while Rise from the Ashes is in effect.

A player, 14 February 2024 05:08

That may require someone smarter than I. I'm trying to compare it to the incredibly rare occurence of multiple events going off at once, and how Dharma would have to determine which to stop.

A player, 14 February 2024 05:08

Based on that, it might have to target.

saaam (not official), 14 February 2024 05:10

I don't think two Events could ever be resolving simultaneously. Even Plains of Otosan Uchi specifies you pick the reveal order.

A player, 14 February 2024 05:13

If an effect turned all Provinces face-up at once, multiple events would trigger. I think in Jade there was a rule that the player whose turn it was determined the order they triggered.

A player, 14 February 2024 05:14

Based on the timing and how Dharma is worded, I can't see a way it would need to be targeted, because it can only be played as a reaction to the exact timing of "Between Event Reveal" and "Event Result", and multiple events can't be happening simultaneously.

saaam (not official), 14 February 2024 05:16

_nods._

A player, 14 February 2024 05:16

Trying an Ashes workaround? :D

saaam (not official), 14 February 2024 05:20

No, I'm the one casting Rise... just want to still be able to nuke their Events. 😃

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 14 February 2024 10:46 · in reply

For what it's worth, I agree Dharma doesn't target the Event for the reasons stated. There is only one trigger window for each Event resolution, so you would never have to choose/target which Event it's affecting when announced.

Clarification on Ring of Flame: Must the previous action be one that destroys a personality or just the second or succeeding actions?

Both actions must destroy.
