If I am able to take the Imperial Favor twice during the same turn, can I choose to use the same Favor ability twice?

Tmk no, the action is not repeatable. But you can use the other favor action
Jim's correct. ๐
Thank you. In that case, how does one play the Ring of Air? Essentially have to have some other way to spend Favor?
Unless, you're playing in a pre-Once-Per-Turn Ruleset.
(looking at 20F Ring of Air):
Yeah, there's a decent amount of Favor Strategy actions to choose from besides the Rulebook ones.
Thanks, that clears it up!
To help your search, remember that anything that involves discarding the favor makes the action become a Favor action
That's good to know. We were trying to figure this out last night for Enlightenment Victory.
Well... when I say "decent", it seems I mean 4-5.
Really? I thought i remembered that from my in person days.
Regardless, iirc, 20f was very light on options
That's fair. We are playing with Ivory through EP atm, and using that rules set.
Expanding my search to Ivory and 20F means there are 5-6 Strategies. ๐
(A number of various Personalities also have Favor actions, but I'm not sure what Clan you're building. ๐ )
Haha well that'll give us something to work with. Friend is a Dragon player trying to leave the enlightenment option open.
Also dont forget that Imperial Summons got MRP where only one effect if Favor now.
Original base Ivory version:
Regal Furisode is the answer
Do you resolve battles at each province even if the active player does not declare any attackers (for the purpose of using reserve/cavalry units)?
attack phase happens only if attacker declares it. this phase is optional
Thank you
i experienced a situation when honor player announced an attack phase "for a joke" and got counter attack from Retribution
I appreciate your help. I have lots of questions that pop up. Currently reading through the CRD between games as well
Lmfao
Can anyone give a rundown of how kata work? Do they stay in play until destroyed, or just until end of turn?
They stay in play until you play another Kata. There's a lot of potential for them to be great.
Thank you! That makes some of these seem pretty interesting
Can School of Wizardry be used to recruit a shugenja Personality with The Majestic Temple of the Phoenix?
Yep.
Thank you much!
Last couple of questions that came up in tonight's games (20F era):
1. Is there a rule that prevents a bowed Shugenja from using its spells (if the abilities on those spells don't require bowing the Shugenja)?
2. The 20F CRD mentions that abilities start with one or more boldfaced keywords. I suppose this implies that text such as that found on Isawa Shunryu ("Before you draw cards at the end of your turn, draw a card") are not abilities. Is there a game term for these "non-abilities"? These still take effect when the card is bowed, correct?
2. Shuyru's extra draw is a Trait
Below the art, card text is Keywords (above the line) Traits (below the line) Actions (below the line, with a ":")
1. To my knowledge this is correct. Example, Kiyoshi's Wrath does not care if the shugenja is bowed or not. Contrast with Seeking the Way that does care.
Thank you, exactly what I was hoping to hear. I feel like I've been gimping myself a bit by assuming I couldn't use spells in that way
Mostly correct...
Cards don't have actions on them: they have abilities.
Abilities are used to take actions.
(Originally, they were called actions, but that was confusing, because it wasn't always clear if "action" was referring to the text on the card or the in game process that creates effects, so "text on the card that lets you take an action" got renamed "ability".)
Abilities start with one of the following in bold face:
Open: Limited: Battle: Reaction: Engage: Dynasty: Interrupt: Response:
Ah, that makes sense.
Ah my apologies for the mistake
Gorobei can (obviously) tap Followers and Personalities. Can he tap items and spells?
Ayup. They're cards.
and Items with +2F counts as 2 force? Spells have always 0?
An Item that grants a bonus does not have it itself.
so an item is always 0F?
AFAIK.
Hrm. I'd have to look that up.
items don't make bonuses. items have stat modifiers
That's the wording, yeah.
if card doesnt have modifier (like spell) it its is considered to have 0
so - for Gorobei's ability sake: item +2F / +1C counts as having two force?
But the card itself doesn't have Force, it has a modifier. Whereas Followers have a printed Force, or can be a modifier.
thank you
that helps a lot
"If something in the game needs to check an Itemโs Force or Chi separately from its Personalityโs stats, use the value of its modifier (minimum zero)."
I can't remember it off the top of my head, but there is a card in 20F arc which bows cards and explicitly says that an item's force is equal to its force modifier
I'll see if I can find it
awesome
i have unending respect for your grasp on rules, guys
Oooh. Okay, cool.
There's 20 years of pedantic gamers that have helped refine them.

Thank you ๐

Also if theres Spell with such trait like this, it has still 0F for purpose of effects.

This is going to sound basic but I started to second guess myself.
If two armies tie at 0f at resolution, do they die? (Post-Ivory)
yes
I thought so but the "nothing happens" clause made me doubt
What if one side has no personalities at the battle? Does it matter?
Yes.
0F army vs. no army means "tie" but no one dies
If you have a 0F army against no army, your army isn't destroyed, and wins the battle, but gains no Honour, nor do you destroy a Province.
I'm pretty sure it counts as a win, because 0 > nil, but that may have changed over the years.
It's not a win.
As in, you don't trigger "win a battle" or "lose a battle" things
Ahh. True.
Can I use Dotanuki to fulfill the requirements for playing Ring of Fire?
I mean, as long as post modification you're still lower or equal chi, it looks like
I guess I am trying to discern when the trait effect from Dotanuki takes effect. When entering the duel, or only during it?
Yeah thats a good question, I'm actually unsure
I wonder if @kempy_nezumi could dredge up a contemporary ruling? I admit it's not terribly clear, and I'd love it if the legwork had already been done 8-9 years ago. ๐
I tried but i haven't found anything ;/
Maybe Dotanuki could help in Ivory as Gold Dotanuki could help with RoF in Gold:

This, at least, seems to make the intent clear.
Thank you for digging this up
