I'm in the process of inventorying weird printings and reprints, and this seems like as good a channel to ask odd printing questions in as any.
Can anyone confirm if the 5 Koku / 10 Koku / 20 Koku premium slot cards (on the backs of the draft strongholds) exist for Thunderous Acclaim (I think yes) and/or Evil Portents (I think no)?
Jeff Williamson (rules official), 5 October 2023 04:14
I will take a look in the near future; all my Premium stuff from Ivory forward got sorted into one or two boxes earlier this year so I should have a clear yes or no
Jeff Williamson (rules official), 5 October 2023 14:30
found out my Conscript proxies were not sorted by art this way 😛
A player, 5 October 2023 14:31
And yeah, crab vs. lion is a weird, weird little set. I can confirm that list is complete; I broke a set out of shrink wrap last week (I know, I know...)
Jeff Williamson (rules official), 5 October 2023 14:32
eh sometimes you just gotta to know what's in there
Jeff Williamson (rules official), 5 October 2023 14:32
for science
A player, 5 October 2023 14:32
Exactly that. I couldn't even FIND a card list for that set, so I was like, well...
A player, 5 October 2023 14:32
I clearly have them all, let's go exploring!
A player, 5 October 2023 14:33
Also, having a full set ... I have no idea how those cards were selected.
A player, 5 October 2023 14:33
Weirdest product in L5R
Jeff Williamson (rules official), 5 October 2023 14:34
39 cards total? yeah v strange
A player, 5 October 2023 14:38
Also, for people who care about the various rule cards and miscellanea, the turn sequence card from that product is unique

Yeah, it's like they had a pile of Pearl stock that they just repackaged into the TopDeck boosters.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 5 October 2023 17:53
@saaam Except no, those Top Deck Pearl cards have unique text and backs.
Jeff Williamson (rules official), 5 October 2023 17:56
"Action:" even weirder than "O:"
Jeff Williamson (rules official), 5 October 2023 17:57
it's the repackaging of always-on traits as Actions for me (see Kamoko)
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 5 October 2023 17:58
Top Deck: Learn to Play... a significantly different game, actually. ;P
saaam (not official), 5 October 2023 17:59
Oh really. That's even weirder.
saaam (not official), 5 October 2023 17:59
Yeah, the O: misprint of Imperial Evil Portents. I used to have a playset of those back in the day.
A player, 5 October 2023 18:49
Yeah, okay, the Top Deck Booster Pack was a truly bizarre object.
A player, 5 October 2023 18:53
The cards they chose for that are bizarre too.
A player, 5 October 2023 18:54
Especially the personalities, who I assume were intended to be representative of the 7 great clans.
A player, 5 October 2023 18:56
But those range from one of the game's most iconic characters (Unicorn), to sort of tolerable (Crab, Scorpion, I guess Crane), to bizarre never-was people that had to have their entire mechanics filed off for the mini set rules (Dragon and especially Phoenix).
A player, 5 October 2023 21:43
So maybe someone here has done insight. GenCon '05 determined the future of the card game at that time, where a Pure deck would lead us into Lotus Edition but a Shadowlands deck would have brought upon "Dark Lotus" edition. Was any story or card design ever done in the event a Shadowlands outcome had happened?
I know Emperor Toturi III was torn up by Eric because the winning deck ran Shadow Dragon but was curious if there was any work done in the event it was a corrupt response
saaam (not official), 5 October 2023 21:44
I believe that's how A Thousand Years of Darkness came about, as a "What If?" set.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 5 October 2023 21:46 · in reply
No. KYD was Gold/Diamond changeover.
saaam (not official), 5 October 2023 21:59
Oh? Neat. Thought that Diamond came after Lotus, but you're right. I skipped Diamond/Lotus and nearby.
I did Clan Wars, Jade, and early Gold, then took a break, somewhere in there played in the Kotei where the Saori deck was still pre-MRP, then a few sets of Celestial, and then stopped. Right when I wanted to get back in, within a few months, the sale/termination was announced.
saaam (not official), 5 October 2023 23:45
I'm kinda sad that I missed out on Emperor, especially around Ninja-lite®, meaning The Shadow's Lair.
saaam (not official), 5 October 2023 23:45
Though I've not been able to find decklists that used it, so it doesn't sound too viable.
Alex Jones (rules official), 6 October 2023 06:18
It was brutal, in the right hands.
kempy_nezumi (not official), 6 October 2023 06:52 · in reply
??? Dropbox - Decks/Emperor - anything starting with SP-TSL SP-TSL-CoM or SP-TSL-GoC are from finish of edition (after Coils of Madness and Gates of Chaos)
saaam (not official), 6 October 2023 06:57
Oh sweet, thanks!
kempy_nezumi (not official), 12 October 2023 06:28
Do you know if there is a public spreadsheet with all printed cards? or a sql database where one can run custom queries? I would like to know stuff like: - all personalities of a given clan that were printed only once - all unique rare strategies sorted by edition, set and alphabetically
A player, 13 October 2023 01:04
You could query the Oracle API and use jq to filter down the results for things it doesn't support.
A player, 13 October 2023 01:06
I don't have a method for "only printed once" but the rest is implemented in the Oracle API
A player, 13 October 2023 01:06
thanks a player, I've doing that, but for I more familiar with sql, so I wondered if there is a SQL database, instead of trying to build my from the API data
A player, 13 October 2023 01:07
yeah, my second example wasn't that good, but I guess I'll continue using the API, thanks for your quick response
A player, 13 October 2023 01:08
Printed only once would be rough with all the Soul ofs...
A player, 13 October 2023 01:08
The data doesn't model well into SQL. The first version was SQL based but the joins got crazy.
A player, 13 October 2023 01:09
Now it's basically elastic search.
A player, 13 October 2023 01:10
yeah, I can imagine, If you still have the sql and are willing to share it, I'll really appreciate it, it could make some of my queries easier.
A player, 13 October 2023 01:12
Shoot me an email at oracle@oracleofthevoid.com
A player, 13 October 2023 01:12
If you promise not to publish it on the internet I should be able to hook you up
A player, 13 October 2023 01:12
I sure will, thank you very much
A player, 13 October 2023 01:13
sure, thanks
A player, 13 October 2023 01:13
The SQL version is technically still running because sun and moon needs it
A player, 13 October 2023 01:14
ohh, nice to know. I'll get familiar with oracle code, I would love to propose a couple of PRs 🙂
A player, 13 October 2023 01:17
Sure thing. Right now what is public is the jQuery based front end that exercises API calls. If you want to look at the API code itself let me know what your GitHub ID is and I can give you access (NDA on that part... I mostly don't want it published so people can't look through it is easy to exploit it if there's an issue).
A player, 13 October 2023 01:17
awesome, sure thing. I'm already writing you the email.
A player, 13 October 2023 01:18
Remind me of all these details in the email, I'm in the middle of a major data center relocation, so I'm a little frazzled.
A player, 13 October 2023 01:20
don't worry, I wish you everything goes well
saaam (not official), 13 October 2023 01:20
Speaking of, any chance the database kept the initial "as printed" text somewhere?
A player, 13 October 2023 01:21
Where that exists, it's in the latest version.
A player, 13 October 2023 01:21
printed_text
saaam (not official), 13 October 2023 01:22
Oh sweet.
A player, 13 October 2023 01:22
API docs talk about it
A player, 13 October 2023 01:22
Or if you run the JavaScript console, you can see when the data gets returned and just expand it and look at it.
A player, 13 October 2023 01:23
It's on my list of things to eventually do to have a button that can toggle to original text, etc
