@Brook Cunningham any idea to make Unshakable to work as it worked in Samurai. It required unbowed Tactician Samurai to play but didnt fizzle Tactician keyword. So eg it was possible for single Tactician to play Superior Strategist for Unshakable to play something from discard.

Alex Jones (rules official), 2 February 2022 11:32

I think we should restore Tactical actions.

Alex Jones (rules official), 2 February 2022 11:32

One of Reese's dumber ideas.

Alex Jones (rules official), 2 February 2022 11:34

I'd not change the wording on Unshakable, though.

Alex Jones (rules official), 2 February 2022 11:35

It was wrongly worded from the start.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 2 February 2022 21:01

Well, on the plus side, Tactical actions were never "removed", Oracle-wise. They just required an entry in the Legacy Rules for their use, like other keywords that were no longer defined in Ivory/20F CR.

Alex Jones (rules official), 2 February 2022 23:16

Well, the standard Tactical ability should go back to being a player ability.

Alex Jones (rules official), 2 February 2022 23:16

Rather than Tactician granting the ability.

Alex Jones (rules official), 2 February 2022 23:17

It was only changed because Reese wanted to get rid of performing (because he misunderstood Zinser).

A player, 9 February 2022 00:57

I thought Unshakeable was always tactical?

kempy_nezumi (not official), 9 February 2022 06:58 · in reply

It's Tactical but as it doesn't target/choose any Tactician it's not Performed. By definition of Tactical in Samurai rulebook, original wording required only unbowed Tactician to play it. Oracle text now require to choose unbowed Tactician who Performs it. That's the difference.

I'm happy with it saying

Battle: Choose your performing unbowed Tactician and a Strategy in your discard pile: Take an additional action to play it for one of its Battle abilities, etc

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 07:17

But it shouldn't be Tactical if it doesn't count as your once per turn.

saaam (not official), 9 February 2022 07:17

Hey, since you're around. Question about Lion in early Jade, kinda up to DJH: what was a viable Lion deck then? The Personality base was just so poor. I either go SL-tainted, or... some kind of a Monk-base with Flee and a pile of Followers.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 07:18

No idea, I only started playing in mid Pearl.

saaam (not official), 9 February 2022 07:18

Really. Neat.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 07:18

Sorry

saaam (not official), 9 February 2022 07:20

Good improvement then. Brought back regular Turi and Agetoki into Strict Jade, so you had actual playable people.

saaam (not official), 9 February 2022 07:20

Then you got Ijiasu with Spirit Wars.

saaam (not official), 9 February 2022 07:20

And a full deck with Gunjin.

saaam (not official), 9 February 2022 07:21

It's funny that there was a time when Ijiasu was considered kinda broken. Or at least overpowered.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 07:34

Ijiasu was, in context, almost busted.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 07:34

He probably took more provinces solo than any other personality in Gold.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 07:34

Especially after Shiro Matsu appeared.

saaam (not official), 9 February 2022 07:44

Fair.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 9 February 2022 07:46

by comparision, his soul of in Ivory environment was mediocre tactician.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 08:20

Province strengths were higher.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 08:20

Plus, Gold had Charge and SoP - and SupTacs, which let him avoid defenders.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 08:21

Lots of PS5 boxes in Gold, for which he just needed to Tact a 4.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:17

@Alex Jones @kempy_nezumi RE: Unshakable. Well, that's weird and I'm sorry. If you're sure there were never any later rulings/errata to the contrary, I can change it back to being unperformed (and just put in explicit text the requirement, "If you have a Tactician at the current Battlefield").

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:18

I think it should be performed by the Tactician, but not a Tactical action.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:18

I know it wasn't originally performed either, but that's shit.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:18

Well, the goal often isn't what should be, but rather to preserve what was.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:19

How very Lion of you.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:20

😜

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:20

I choose to take that as a compliment, coming from an Akodo. 🙂

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:21

Did the Tactician at the battlefield need to be unbowed, or no? (I don't want to bother looking up the SE Rulebook 😛 )

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:21

I think we should fix it.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:21

Unbowed.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:22

@kempy_nezumi Does it break anything if we make it not Tactical?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:22

I mean, if we decided we should "fix" things... that would be a lot of things.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:22

Gotta start somewhere...

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:22

Something we could put a pin in, perhaps, but for now, I'm going to just make it how it was.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:22

Little strokes fell big oaks.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:23

Maybe save it for once Don hosts Rules documents, and we can make an improved Final CR and bring back Constraints blocks.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:24

@kempy_nezumi It has to break something. Surely there are like, things that React/Trait-pop to Tacticals being played, or fetch them, or the like?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:24

Wow, it's too early. I thought that was Kempy talking, but that was you talking to him. >_<

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:25

Anyway, my point stands. I'm sure it probably breaks something, but you'd know better, Mr. Lion.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:27

Offhand? EVD.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:28

So, you answered your own question? 🙂

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:29

I care more for consistent rules than for individual cards.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:29

And a deck that's playing enough Tacticians for Unshakable to be playable, isn't going to lack for triggers for EVD.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:31

I find myself actually leaning the other way in these wasteland times, seeing people online playing a lot of block simulations, it feels like the higher priority in the current "environment" (such as it is) would be card preservation, since very few people seem to be playing by anything resembling consistent Rules. Again, I could see that changing once the Oracle starts hosting a Rules resource upon itself.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:33

Good talk, but I must away to work. See you around!

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:34

Hm.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:34

Actually... There's quite a lot that interacts with Tactical actions.

Alex Jones (rules official), 9 February 2022 10:47

Aiki Tactics, Akodo Anshiro exp, Akodo Kobi exp, Akodo Tamisu, Bayushi Kyono, Ikoma Ayumu, Matsu Taniko, Scouting Team, plus a few more that interact with performed Tactical actions.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 17 February 2022 19:38

@Brook Cunningham shouldnt Whispered Rumours have same wording like Forewarning (about events)?

kempy_nezumi (not official), 17 February 2022 19:40

Or it doesnt matter and even with printed such wording Whispered Rumours are still able to negate ability from Ivory+ event?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 18 February 2022 00:10 · in reply

Well, when I was rewording cards, I was going alphabetically, so I did Forewarning, but I never got as far as Whispered Rumors; you'll note it still has constraints, Emperor-style. 😛
