this legit copy?
is it a real Card? sure.
I know its a real card but Im wondering if this is a legit copy
there are only like 9 copies though.. so i would request the provenance if you are seriously looking at it
If i spent 900$ on a card like this, I think my family would murder me.
honestly, i would question the fact that it is asking 900$ and has no details at all in the info area.
that was my thinking
I had a chance to win one at a Kotei, once. Box of Greed random pulls, and Mike Colson had put one in there (by proxy, of course). Got an Imperial Crane Sword, but that was my best pull. I wonder what ever happened to that one. I hope that listed one is real, and if so, I hope it finds a good home. Not mine for that price, though.
Mike would put it into the boxes for pulls, and if someone got it who just wanted to sell it sometimes he'd just buy it back to do it again.
I've heard there were ca 50 copies of Designer Wins distributed.
Anywa i can understand such price tag for DW, but wth is this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/L5R-CCG-Promo-Rare-Collector-Item-One-koku-card/303735069776?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20180213162448%26meid%3De494d8af66d6439c93a523dc49689bf1%26pid%3D100930%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D303735070237%26itm%3D303735069776%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2332490%26algv%3DDefaultOrganic&_trksid=p2332490.c100930.m5375
Ooo boy, I might be sitting on a gold mine! đ Yeah, no. Then again, I don't remember them making as insignificant a card as a "1 Koku" promo. Maybe I have one, maybe I don't. I'm sure I've got higher denominations in a binder somewhere.
I've never seen the one and five but people say they exist
Hrm. Yeah, you've only got a 10 and 50 of that style in the Oracle. I wonder if this is another unreleased one? Hey, if this guy puts up unsigned foil Lion GE Celestial swords, call the damned cops (EDIT: if anyone reading this doesn't know that story, ask me why!).
I have seen and sold lots of tens and fifties
Looks like the guy has also put up a BUNCH of other unreleased promos, Spanish and English, whole sets of CWS foils and SE foils, and multiple Deciding Moment variants. I wonder where he got all this? :/
pretty sure i know who it is... and if so, some of that stuff he bought from me.
(which I essentially got from Oracle work)
yeah.. i know who it is... very sure now... and it looks like from my records he got the 10k koku deciding moment bundle.
(not the designer wins, but I suspect it's legit.... He's probably the one that bought the one listed on ebay a few years ago)
I still need to Part with my 10k Deciding moment set.. hmm
Good to know. Might want to see if you can get a high-rez scan of that 1 Koku (and maybe all those Spanish-only promos too) before he sells them? shrug
Are the same people saying l5r cards outside of wedge hold no value the same ones selling their cards on eBay for way more than when the game was still in print?
Doubtful.
If they are selling on ebay, they'd know wedge wasn't anywhere near top value.
Wedge had dropped to not a ton by the time it was reprinted in 20F
By that point it had already had a CE15 reprint
Not to mention been printed in other base sets
Yeah. Ce15 was only a few bucks
Wedge back in the day was a $40 card, by 20F it was more like $5
The ones saying wedge is worth more than everything else are just severely confused.
Thatâs what I figured
Not that doc and I are two of the biggest l5r singles sellers out there
Note
Heh and also have been involved with the game since the early days
Oh I know Iâve probably bought/sold singles from both of you back in that day
toysmakeuspowerful.com, the prototype search
I sold some wedges back in the day for $80. It's definitely not worth that now
I remember selling a copy of The Maw for $40 at DieCon... and then it was a $1 base set Lotus card.
I remember getting a set of forgotten legacy from a friend for free. Got me groceries that month
yeah.. the more times a card is reprinted, the more it drops
except.. maybe sneak attack...
it's been pretty consistently 10-15 for most of the time.. except it dipped a little when it wasn't actively legal
the highest non-promo card is Kachiko thunder.. you can get over 100 now for her
What about autographed cards?
When they were reprinting Sneak in every l2p set, I dropped mine to $5 to sell more consistently
I think that was one i didn't drop the price on much.. just waited for you to sell out, and sold mine at 10 đ
Had a guy who would come to events and spend $50 buying every copy I had with me
i'm not sure how to value signed cards, really. i have a pile i need to sell
I think signed L5R cards are mostly sought after by people who like signatures, other than that they donât tend to have much additional value
most l5r players go for functionality... except for rare exceptions (kachiko)
Only wish I could have got to meet William oconner
Also wish I could get basic and xp2 kachiko and I would have the set
Some of my treasures
I have a few of these card alters in a mini binder, had an ambition to get a Five Nights At Freddieâs Siege: Clan War deck, but international artists made that challenging
Also art collectives. A lot of the Siege art was Conceptopolis.
ahh.. so that is his signature.
Met Sam Flegal during an Atlanta kotei in 2014 very nice person.
btw that 1 Koku card from many days ago is legit but super scarce, I donât know if the idea was to pack them like Ghost Rock originally
But it was one of the sought after promos on tradecardsonline from the earliest days
I think some of the scarce Gold/Diamond promos were unreleased but crept into the wild. I remember trawling eBay and getting stuff from a seller in Texas, like the foil Hanabi (Gold promo) I ended up trading to Reese for multiple foil sets
There were some that got mis-packed in APC packs. I know I had one of them. (Which I think I also traded to Reese for something or other.)
Wow, kind of crazy, and probably more of it still in unopened boxes considering what a garbage set APC was
Hah. Yeah.
so if i find some apc packs in my piles of stuff, open them... check.
Heh right? Kind of like the Samurai decks and the full bleed l2p strongholds that never were
What are the full bleed l2p strongholds?
How rare is the oniâs eye promo?
Temptation level. Just wasnât as good as the others
Is it in the Oracle? I may need to clear cache but nothing is coming up
Oof, tonightâs âforgotten binders of stuffâ finds: sets of KYD, DotE, ToE, and two sets of HoR
https://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Duelist-Magazine-April-1997-16-MTG-Sealed-w-L5R-PROMO-INSERT-RARE-/265034993148?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286 anyone know anything about this?
Looks like a pretty standard Shadowlands pack
I think that might have been where I got my first L5R cards.
I used to have a playset of Way of Shadow (so CCG, to be clear), signed by Ree Soesbee. She was so confused at that Kotei, as to why I wanted her to sign the cards and not the book.
I'm seeing The Oni's Eye in the Oracle.
It was like a CA$30 card back when it was played, from what I recall.
Anyone have scans of the imperial heralds?
I believe that the Garbage of the Five Rings folks have posted some up.
Did anyone make a kakita jester/artisan deck for 20f? Was there enough cards for it before the end?
I never did as i rarely played political Crane - only some weird stuff like big Onis from Crane strongholds. Probably with help of Akeha Sensei from (unreleased) The Blackest Storm, whole dishonor/control stuff should got boost as you could mix scorpion and crane guys in same deck.
That would be an interesting sensei!
Interesting that this impacts your opponent's Personalities as well.
I had one that used Political Standoff x3 which was pretty solid, it was unfortunately undone by completely missing one military card's effect during set playtest
Hey guys, looking for recommendations for cards that take advantage of 3 personal honor or higher personalities. I already have strength of purity and wondering if there's cool newer ones? Also, is there an effective way to search for this on Oracle? Thanks
Well, generally, select the legality arc, and then in the Text field enter "personal honor". Note that you'll get lots of other things that aren't specifically about high PH, but the wordings can vary.
Ok. I wasn't sure if there was a better way to search than that but thank you! Any recommendations for cards that take advantage of high ph?
Really depends on which arc. Let Your Spirit Guide You, and Burning Your Essence are older positive ones.
Kakita Shijin is always fun.
Chasing Osano-Wo.
Noble Sacrifice, Kakita Technique, Return for Training...
Remember What You Have Seen is really fun with Ki-Rin, Oni no Pekkle, and so on.
TO DO WHAT WE MUST
Awesome, we're playing anything old border so up till samurai. I'm putting together toturis army with lots of 3ph
Soul's Sacrifice.
I'm not able to see these from the link...
Works on my end.
Hmm I wonder what is wrong
in the meantime what are the cards?
You may need to clear your browser cache, etc.
Wow thanks Kempy! The fortunes smile is amazing
Question: A soldier's fate: straighten him after combat segment ends, Would that be before force is calculated and's battle ends or like a rally cry?
before you count force
Extra spicy! Thanks those are some great recommendations
A Soldier's Fate was a staple in my lion decks during Samurai
It's definitely going in the toturis deck! Woot
Also, don't forget Toturi is Drugged.
Amazing card. Really under-appreciated.
Back in The Dayâ˘ď¸, that was my "signature card", to sound really lame. I added 2x to almost every deck I played, usually bumping my Fate to 42 cards. But it helped so, so many times.
Bought a booster tin of evil portents. Very much missed opening packs and thinking about decks. Now that the lcg is dead has anyone heard anything? Are they gonna move the lcg to a side company like the books and rpg?
Unlikely. The community whateverathing seems to be taking over. They'll probably do digital releases at some point.
Is anyone doing anything with the ccg design/rule set?
Not really. Which is understandable. There's already a bunch of pre-existing stuff, and lots of variety to pick. The rest leads to people squabbling.
I don't feel that anyone can really do something meaningful about either games without purchasing the IP and doing it "officially".
I mean, @kempy_nezumi and some others have been trying to put together a fan-made CCG successor for a while, but I unfortunately mostly agree with Shiwan's last statement above.
I looked at the rebirth council group and while it looked neat, it seemed inactive.
If it's a spin-off, there's risk of litigation. Especially if it's successful.
L5R has too big of a following, and two incompatible versions, each with years of history.
(Whereas something small like the old-school Rage CCG works in the community steering way because it's nowhere near popular, and there's way less community fighting.)
With L5R, you'd get tens of thousands of fans polarized into each option, whatever that is.
I haven't really looked in there in awhile myself, so I couldn't speak to Rebirth's level of progress.
@saaam Per your last statement about polarized opinions, probably mostly between whether Clan War or Emperor was better. đ Though the LCG might have its vocal supporters too at some point, once it's fully over and the shock of loss has warn off.
I also feel that the end of Old5R is so vastly different in design and play from the early Old5R that they're separate games now, that just share some common themes and some rules.
They should live as separate products, almost.
Old CCG, New CCG, and LCG, you know?
Eh, I think the biggest supporting points behind calling Old5R two different games exist wholly within the final Ivory/20F arc.
Yeah.
So, "New CCG" era is something that can be ignored/rolled back to fold in properly with the majority.
The lcg despite wanting to like it just didnât work for me game, design and flavor wise
Well, maybe. There's lots of people, I dunno, maybe more than half the fanbase, that only really knows Old5R from the CE-and-onward card faces.
That, too. I looked at the LCG seriously, and couldn't get onboard.
Somehow they took a game that was always criticized as being too complex and made it more so
Well, besides the "faces" (and I know Beowulf swears by not using new faces), CE and EmpE had a lot more in common with what went before than what came after.
I feel that there's potential for an awesome story based on the older arcs, but done more... PC. Less 90s white-man-imagining-Asian-women flavour, but with more focus on the strategy components and some authenticity.
The lcg did seem more sensitive and pc which was a plus.
But the story can be cleaned up nicely, and there's plenty of good stuff through the early arcs. Not sure why FFG decided to move it along so slowly.
because the LCG was conceived and designed in the modern era
Bring back Ree Soesbee for the story!@#$
And Brandon "Hawke" Flores for the... something.
Iâm guessing they wanted to finish day of thunder then come out with new base set/edition
not ree... .wick.
Unless they were going to rush things, the LCG was still years of real-time off of the Day of Thunder based on their established pace.
As I understand, 2nd hand; didn't follow it closely.
The rpg and lcg were connected via story and that may have slowed things down
Same. That it would take basically a decade or two to get through to the Hidden Emperor.
Wasn't ever a problem for Old5R. đ
I think they would have been better off doing their own storyline not using older characters
they were trying to Keep old players with nostalgia ..
Very true, but the old players also probably didnât want to play their board game masquerading as a card game.
It kinda just made me mad that they called it L5R still.
I remember being in my gaming store and getting the first lcg clan pack or whatever it was and seeing others opening up a magic booster box. It was a very deflating feeling.
I mean, there's no comparing the endorphine rush of chasing random content versus opening something where you know the contents in full, but that can't be the deciding factor, IMHO.
it's a hard comparison. the Costs of development between the two is night and day.
@Brook Cunningham Technically, not against the new faces. Having just started again there's too many cards to learn at once. So we decided to go only old faces too make deck design simpler. I do think some of the new stuff is really well done though!
Ah, ok, just to cut down the pool, not because you thought the later editions were too "different"! Good to know, because yeah, as I was saying, things don't get too radically different until the final arc, Ivory/20F (Gold Pooling, removal of Clan discount, and 2-sided Strongholds being the biggest differences, I'd say).
Yeah, mainly just too overwhelming to have to check 'every' scorpion guy for my dishonor deck for example. We have incorporated most of ivory rules but not yet the gold pooling, border keep, etc, quite yet
And I'm too OCD with my deck building not to look at all the options Haha!!
Does anyone have links to deck lists from evil portents era?
Those would most like be in @kempy_nezumi 's Box folder.
evil portents = an edition with evil portents legal (imperial) or evil portents as last official aeg expansion?
Last official aeg expansion
so go into my dropbox, decks/twentyfestivals and and deck with "clan-name-acronym"-EP-"deck-name" is made after EP release.
IP sale happened before EP was released. AEG closed its forums and autumn after-sale 2015 kotei season didnt got any official coverage. earlier during this edition AEG was releasing winning decks in their forum.
so there were only few tourneys with EP legal, and they happened at the end of last kotei season. at this point nobody cared to report/archive them. So it's much easier to find Thunderous Acclaim / Siege:Clan War meta decks
I don't know if I'm in the right place, but I'm trying to complete my collection of old L5R card. Is there any website that stil sells playset of comon/uncommon or rare cards ? Maybe I could be interested in old booster boxes (at descent price đ )
I guess define old đ ... The runner of this discord sells old L5R, and I have newer old L5R as well
I have some sets on imperialblock.com
C/u anyway. Don't know of anyone selling rare sets
I have boosters
Which sets do you have boosters of?
Some day I'll scrape enough together to get Don's IE boosters, too.
Wrath of the Emperor The Truest Test Code of Bushido Stronger than Steel Honor's Veil The Heaven's Will Drums of war
Ahh, the mid-range sets. Cool!
One of the things I've always wondered about the Scorpion clan coup is why they just didn't MRP older versions of the appropriate cards, so they didn't have to add 'inexperienced' to the lexicon.
I'm glad they didn't, but I too am surprised, considering how many storyline-related MRPs they made in Jade Edition (Hitomi, Togashi Hoshi, Tamori Yoshi, etc).
As it was coming out, the inexperienced trait was crazy awesome from a fanboy perspective. Which no doubt was why they did it.
Yeah, I get it on one hand. I remember being SUuuuuuper hyped at the time.
On the other, they should have just ended it like they were threatening to do
Yeah, SCC is... weird.
Definitely cobbled together.
The game feels cohesive from Imperial through Time of the Void, the initial planned run.
SCC feels like rushed, and kind of a "throw things at the wall and see what sticks" thing, kinda done by interns, while the core people went to the drawing board with a briefcase half-full of cash available.
To the point where my deck collection has a set that go from IE -> TotV, and a set that go from IE -> SCC3. And the game has a different feel. Mind you, nowhere near as big as going into Jade, but, still.
Then again, I think fondly on those times, since it was just before SCC that I got into the game. So periphery stuff is memorable, more-so than the game itself. I really cared about it through the Jade arc, and care more about it technically than spiritually, if you will.
I was just happy the Scorpion Clan got a viable non-corrupt Stronghold in SCC. đ Then, of course, they stole the Personality base away from it for the duration of Jade until Honor Bound, when they got an even better Stronghold. Haha. Such is life.
I dunno, the Ruined Fortress was pretty cool.
I liked it both mechanically and thematically.
Agree, ruined fortress is cool stylistically and for the story but 2 gold is completely not viable unfortunately
Yeah, it really forces you to play corrupted gold.
Sadly.
I took the core of a Ruined Fortress deck and ported it to The Ruined Temple of the Phoenix, swapped out a few Personalities for some Phoenix Uniques (no non-Uniques), and it ran smoother and more consistently.
Yeah, definitely but even with corrupt holdings it's really limiting with only 2 gp
But eventually they were like "enjoy the towers of Yogo", which was one of my favorite builds. Soooo I forgive everyone involved Haha
Well, maybe the Scorpion Clan needs to have less avocado toast and pull themselves up by the bootstraps.
In Lotus, Lion may as well have had a 2G SH.
There were no worthwhile holdings that cost 3g.
I didn't play during lotus so I'm not sure about the meta but back in earlier arcs the lions gold still allowed a first turn matsu gohei and then second turn province. So, I just meant that 2 gold in that environment was basically unusable given the emphasis on speed. I mean, no first turn jade works back then Haha!
Well, I made a cube, not sure if it will be any good, haha. It's made from the 20f arc so 20f, tha, and ep. Its made for 4 players, 6 packs of 9 cards , right now I have 3 pa ks dynasty and 3 packs fate. Idea is to alternate dynasty first pass right the fate passed left. I'm hoping to do some tests with it this weekend, but just building it it looks super fun.
