That is not correct. He can use Sorrow's Debt to take control of Uki, and she will change sides.
The rules say that if you take control of a card at a battlefield, it goes over to your side/army. The game term to "attack" means to "assign, move, or enter play into an attacking army". The game term "move" is to change locations. Uki does not change locations by switching sides, therefore though she "will not attack", she may do this.

I found the pdf describing Multiplayer rules from Kempy's files, but it's clearly from Celestial or Emperor edition. I'm trying to put together a more complete, yet legible rulebook for Shattered Empire, and I'd like to make sure I get this right.
What happens to cards you control but don't own if you leave a multiplayer game?

I feel like there's a section addressing this in the 20F Comprehensive Rules (which is mostly what ShE uses), but I don't have it handy. You should search it for similar terms.

alright, I'll try that. Didn't think to check there for multiplayer stuff
A player, 3 March 2026 00:07
okay... it has pretty much the exact same text

Ha, yeah, I should've said, I doubted there was much if any difference, but as ShE mostly uses 20F CR as the basis for its rules, you can consider that the most accurate.

true enough. When I get everything I want in here, I'll post the rulebook here for proofreading
A player, 4 March 2026 22:09
alright, so, I've got a rulebook set up, but I don't want to post it here because I want to make sure that if there's anything legal that needs to be worked out, I'm not accidentally letting something loose on the internet that can no longer be contained.
I sent it to @Jeremy Sumerlin to go over and verify any legal stuff that needs to be removed or added, but he hasn't gotten back to me. Might just be a timing thing... it's only been a day. I was wondering who else I might be able to send it to for confirmation in that regard before posting it for proofreading.
A player, 4 March 2026 22:10
like, basically I just don't know what might be a problem, so I wanted to verify that first.
A player, 4 March 2026 23:12
or maybe I won't get any response with just a question... or maybe I'm just being impatient...
Well, is it okay to mention the name "Legend of the Five Rings", or "Based on the card game by John Zinzer and David Seay" in the acknolwedgements?
Or should I just omit that part of it?
A player, 4 March 2026 23:13
are there other names I should add to this list?
A player, 4 March 2026 23:14
and should I go for Discord names? Or should I collect real names to put in here instead? Also, should I add other names like bblade and technogashi?
A player, 4 March 2026 23:14
and how should I name the categories?
A player, 4 March 2026 23:15
I don't want to cause any problems, and if there is a problem here, I can delete these messages.
Wait, wait. It's a tie, so it shouldn't be a loser, right? Or it is considered that both players lost? Or won? Or both?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 31 March 2026 10:23 · in reply
Well, the outcome doesn't really matter; if it's a tie (double loss), or the person who played the card won or if they lost; in all cases, the person who played the card chooses the "or" effects.
Just like a hypothetical card that says, "Battle: Move home or bow a target Personality.", whoever played it chooses.
I see, I hadn't full understood Kitsu's question... but it is good to know that a tie means a double loss... now, that opens a new question for me... when you play that card, you chose the effect before the duel even starts, right? Or you choose after the duel resolves?
But the hypothetical doesn't take into account that in a duel you can have two losers. But just making the ruling that the person playing the card decides the effect is fine!

@Brook Cunningham ??
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 31 March 2026 20:50 · in reply
You'd choose the effect when it's applied, when duel consequences are suffered at the end. Also note, in a tie, both losers would suffer the same chosen consequence. You can't pick one or the other for both; you pick what happens to the "loser", then it happens to both.
A player, 31 March 2026 20:56
Yeah... I got that.

Fair. Since you were both involved in the discussion, I didn't want to add anything without you both tagged. 🙂
