Far and Wide, singular and the Khol Wall

I have a question about the interaction between Far and Wide and the singular traits on regions.

The following situation occured: a Khol Wall player flips his provinces in his event phase and attaches two regions, refills face down and after the end of his event phase he flips those cards face up. The cards that now sit face up on the just attached regions are also regions. Region 1 (sorrows path) has a Barbarian Wall on it, and Region 2 (Barbarian Wall) has a sorrows path on it. Can the Khol Wall player play a Far and Wide to attach one of these regions to the other?

No.

Does Far and Wide make use of the Cardinal Rule to work its way around the singular trait? If not, please explain why.

It doesn't work around Singular rules because:

A.) It doesn't explicitly say it overrides the Singular rules.

B.) You can play the card for its effect in other circumstances without violating the Singular rule.

You only get the "implicit" use of the Cardinal Rule if it is impossible to play the card for its effect without doing so. In the case of Far and Wide, you can still use the card to play a Region in a manner that would not violate Singular.

Remember that Far and Wide wasn't written with Diamond Edition rules in mind - Singular never existed then, there was only Unique. Far and Wide was written with a prohibition against layering two copies of the same Region onto the same Province to prevent things like doubled Shadowlands Marsh back before they made all Regions Singular.

all I ever wanted to know about raid battles, but was afriad to ask

1. You use Shiroko to pay 6 gold to target a personality in one of the opponent's providences and bring him into play at my home ignoring all other costs. Does this mean I can

a. Bring guys into play who require more honor than I currently have?

"Personalities' Honor Requirements need only be met during the Dynasty Phase. [JA, 27 September 2001]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Honor Requirements")

You use the ability during the Action Phase, not the Dynasty Phase, so yes.

b. Bring guys into play who have specific text saying they will only join players of a specific faction?

No. That is not a "cost," it is a restriction on who can control the card. If you aren't of the proper Faction, any attempt to bring him under your control (including playing him) will fail.

c. Similarly, can I bring loyal guys into play?

Again, not if you aren't of the same Faction. "Loyal" is the same as the 'will only join players of a specific faction' example.

2. When I declare a raid battle, can either player invite allies as normal? Would an allied attacker get the same raid battle bonus I get from winning?

It is a declared attack, just like any other. It creates an Attack Phase. People can play Reactions. Players can invite allies.

There is only one "raid bonus" effect, and it is distributed by the player who played the ability on Aramasu's Pride. You could certainly target holdings controlled by another player as some sort of reward for allying to you. Heck, you can increase the production of the Defender's holdings if you really want to.

3. I asked this before, but just to make sure. If a player with personalities that have Yu looses a raid battle, does that player get to shoot Yu at me (the raider) despite that his guys don't die at the resolution of the battle?

The fact that his guys don't die at resolution has NOTHING to do with Yu at all. The Yu mechanic's rules in the game specifically say that Yu triggers upon LOSING the battle. Whether or not that Battle Resolution destroys you is completely irrelevant. This is why Pick Your Battles and chump-blocking with an "immortal" Hida Sozen were both good in their day.

4. In the case of Tokaro, during a raid battle he can target an unopposed personality and a holding that the defending player has (meaning not allies). Since I'd be the attacker, and none of my raid guys are calvary,

You should be playing "Along the Coast at Midnight." :-)

under what circumstances would the opponent ever have an unopposed defender during a raid battle situation? Unopposed means that the character is defending against no attackers dosen't it?

No. Unopposed means, "not opposed."

Everyone in his Home is "unopposed" as is anyone at a Battlefield without an opposing Army.

Further, it is possible during the course of an Attack Phase for personalities that start out opposed to become "unopposed" due to unit movement, destruction, or simply the departure of Attacking untis during Battle Resolution.

Formations

If I wanted to play Direct Assault or Anchor the Line, and my opponents found a way to cancel it, with say Flee the Darkness or Fall on Your Knees, respectively, would the whole formation discarded?

No. Your opponent didn't cancel the resolution of the Action of putting the Formation into play, so it remains in play.

Canceling an Action played from a Formation that is already in play does not cause the Formation to be discarded any more than Canceling an Action from from a Personality that is in play causes the Personality to be discarded.

Questions

Can an action be cancelled by, for example, Kyuuden Ikoma, if its RA effect has been modified by 'No Hiding Place'?

Yes. "No Hiding Place" is timed well before the timing required for Kyuden Ikoma. It happens during the Targeting of an Action, and Kyuden Ikoma happens before the Effects of the Action would resolve.

During Battle Resolution can multiple Followers bow to negate the destruction of multiple Personalities using the Reaction on 'Iron Pillar', or can it be used just once?

You can use it multiple times. Each destruction of each card be addressed individually, even if they happen en masse from a single source at the same time.

Aramasu's Pride

Me and my friends were wondering about the bonus granted by Aramasu's Pride on abilities on holdings or conditional gold on holdings.

Any non-Action effect of the Holding that Produces Gold will produce 4 more Gold.

For example: After winning a raid, can you target Barley Farm and bow it to produce 5 gold and does it's ability also get affected allowing you a non-bow for 5 gold on top of that?

The Reaction's production is not modified. The non-Action production is boosted.

Also, cards like Shrine to Ebisu or Roadside Shrine. Could you then bow the shrine and a personality for 8 gold?

I think you mean Shrine to Benten here, and yes, you can bow it for 6 Gold OR 8 Gold.

And Roadside Shrine does it produce 6 or 7 for cav and item?

Yes.

Shosuro Tsuyoshi [RULES]

Reaction: After an action taken by another player targets Tsuyoshi: Ranged 3 attack that is compared against the target's Chi.

Can this reaction target only an action that has a Personality as the source of the player's action, such as an Iajutsu Challenge? Or can Tsuyoshi pick a target of my choice (I control Tsuyoshi) in response to a Kolat Assasin, Shame, Block Supply Lines, etc?

He can shoot any legal target.

You'll have a hard time finding a legal target for a Ranged Attack outside of a Battle though - since you'll lack any cards "opposing" Tsuyoshi, which are the only cards that are legal targets for a Ranged Attack from Tsuyoshi. (Diamond Edition Rulebook, page 90, "Making Ranged Attacks")

Would the Personality created by a Geisha Assassin be subject to this Reaction?

Geisha Assassin does not create a Personality until the Resolution of its effect. If you were to use Tsuyoshi's Reaction in response to being targeted by Geisha Assassin, the Personality would not be created yet.

That probably won't happen, though, considered a method for playing Geisha Assassin during a Battle is rather suspect.

If the source of the action is a personality and that personality is killed by Tsuyoshi's reaction (ie; Patronage) does the action fail?

Destroying the source of an Action does not stop, cancel, or negate an Action on its own.

That destructions might coincidentally cause the Action to wind up Canceled or have some of its effects Negated. It would be Canceled if that Personality was supposed to do something like bow to pay a cost of the Action and now obviously can't, being dead and all.

Also, any Effect of an Action that would normally have affected that Personality will fail to resolve if the Personality became an illegal target before the Action's effects resolved. In most cases, being dead makes you an illegal target of most Actions (you can't play Destiny Has No Secrets or Kolat Assassin targeting someone in your Discard Pile even if you wanted to).

That should cover everything from Sunday. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] as part of a clear and distinct Subject Line. I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
