Web of Lies : Yoritomo Matsoru

"For the rest of the game cards in that Province may not be discarded or enter play, and the Defender may pay 3 gold as a Limited action to end this effect at the end of that turn"

If I pay 3 gold during my action phase, this means I still won't be able to do anything with the cards in the province during the Dynasty phase of the current turn, since when you pay the effect is ended at the end of the turn ?

Going by the wording you've posted, that would seem to be the case to me. This way the Raid always trips up your tempo for at least 1 turn. Defend your protectorate, Samurai, or face dire consequences.

Lots of questions...

1) I have a face down Dynasty card in my province and I discard it with Musume Mura. When I flip it up, it turns out to be Bayushi Sharaku. Can I use his reaction?

Sharaku says, "Reaction: If you are a Scorpion Clan player, discard a card from another player's Province after discarding Sharaku, or bringing Sharaku into play, from one of your Provinces."

You've got a face-up Sharaku by the time you could use his Reaction ("after discarding Sharaku). I don't think there would be any problem there.

2) My opponent takes a province with Bayushi Sharaku in it. Is he discarded and then the province destroyed (thus triggering his ability) or is the province destroyed and then he is discarded (and thus he was not discarded from a province)?

"A Dynasty card placed in the discard pile after a Province has been destroyed is not discarded "from" the Province (e.g., it is not a legal trigger for Bayushi Sharaku's Reaction). [JA, 25 February 2003]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Discard")

3) As Commanding Favor counts as paying the cost of the favor is it actually considered a use of the favor for effects such as Far From the Empire and Confusion at Court?

Yes. That's why Confusion at Court worked against Kyuden Bayushi Gozoku, and why using Kyuden Bayushi's Reaction still triggered the "until" clause of Gozoku Sensei.

4)Is attaching the Imperial Standard considered a political action taken by the target? If so, and I Enough Talk the attachment, what happens in case of a tie?

No. It does not meet any of the first 4 "Performing" criteria on page 71.

5) Suppose I am running Razor's Edge Dojo. My opponent targets me with Gozoku Sensei and discards the favor. As Razor's Edge has an effect causing them to discard as a result of *targeting*, if I cancel the discarding of the favor do they still have to discard a card? (ie they target me, they discard a card and then proceed to paying costs which I cancel)

They discard the card during the Targeting Step. They discard the Imperial Favor during the Pay Cost step. By the time the Action is canceled due to non-payment, they've already lost the card.

6) Now for the fun ones. I have Chimamire no Oni in my dead pile (and I'm playing Spawning Grounds). I have one token on Summon the Dead attached to a shugenja. I then announce my target for Summon the Dead (the oni) and pay costs (bow the shuggy and remove a token). At that point, the spell's trait triggers and all personalities I have targeted with the spell are destroyed. so... Does the Chimamire no Oni then get destroyed before returning to play, thus triggering his reaction (after all, his reaction can only be used when he's in the dead pile anyway)?

You can't destroy cards that are already in the Discard Pile. Such an effect is Negated.

And secondly, now that costs have been paid and the trait triggered by the cost has resolved, do we then go to the effects of the spell which allows me to bring the oni into play?

Sure.

Net effect, the oni is destroyed, I use his reaction, and then bring him into play permanently?

Net effect, the oni's destruction is illegal, and thusly negated, and then you bring him into play without fear of the Spell destroying him.

7) If I've used Summon the Dead on three different Chimamire no Onis, all of whom are now in my dead pile, and then I remove the last token from Summon the Dead, can I use the reactions on all three Chimamire no Oni's (as again, their reactions can only be used when they're in the dead pile anyway)?

No. See above.

8) If Chimamire no Oni is used twice in a turn, can I Same Old Tricks the card (as he's in the dead pile)?

No. The general rule is that cards that are not in play can't be targeted. (Diamond Edition Rulebook, page 73). Since there are plenty of instances where you can use the Same Old Tricks against a target card that IS in play and Same Old Tricks does not give you an explicit exemption, you can't use it against any card that is NOT in play - including any "Normal" Action Card (the ones that don't enter play) or an Action played from a card that isn't in play.

Rules Questons need help!

How does Honor Lesson Dojo work with Formations or any other action that gives you more actions example: Blade of Thorns

You do what the cards tell you. If they tell you to take another Battle or Open Action, then do it.

Can you Tireless Assualt a personality that is effected by the Ruby of Iuchiban.

Tireless will move the unit and straighten any cards it can, but victim of the Ruby still can't straighten.

If I have Pan Ku in play and I copy the Printed force/Chi/ability of a personality. Then play Egg of Pan Ku on Pan Ku. Do I get all of the copied abilies/Stats and the Ability to Copy again?

Yes. The Egg of P'an Ku says, "After entering play, this card becomes a copy of that Personality's printed card plus all permanent changes in effect on it."

Also, I remeber ready somewhere that using the Egg of Pan Ku on Shosuro will will allow you to use the After entering play Reaction. I the Rule Archive I found a Ruling 'Under Entering Play Section" saying that Egging someone is not considered bringing them into play. Which one is it?

You bring Egg of P'an Ku into play when you play it. After that is changes form into a Personality. This is the same timing window as the Reaction on Shosuro. Ergo, you have not brought a Personality into play (it wasn't a Personality when you played it), but you have brought "this card" into play, which is the only requirement for Shosuro's Reaction.

The ruling under "Entering play" refers to the Transformation Effect of the Egg, which DOES NOT count as "entering play" - but putting the Egg itself into play from you hand is most certainly involves the Egg "entering play."

In short:

1.) A card that is already in play changing card-types doesn't count as bringing a card of the new type into play.

2.) Bringing a card into play that will later change its card-type DOES count as bringing a card of the old type into play, as well as bringing "this card" into play.

That should cover everything for Sunday. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] as part of a Clear and Distinct subject line. I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
