Summon Earth Kami [Question]

A guy can use this to create a pep card in controll of the adversary?

Yes. Summon Earth Kami says, "create a 1F/1C Personality card in the current battle, controlled by either the Attacker or the Defender and in that player's army."

Question {Marty}

Player A uses Show of Good Faith to take control of Player B personality. Player A kills that peep than feign deaths that peep. Does Player A take permanent control of the Peep?

[MARTY] Yes. He brought that Personality into play under his control from out of play. He's now the "default" controller of the Personality, just as if he'd bought him from a Province.

Can Player A attack on the same turn?

[MARTY] Sure, the "while under your control" duration on that effect expired when the Personality left play for the Discard Pile.

straightening phase and enough talk questions

My first question is how exactly is Straightening Phase resolved? If straightening one card would trigger reaction on another of my bowed cards, could I straigten the other one first and use its reaction?

Usually, you straighten all of them at once. If there is a conflict, the Active Player can decide an order of straightening the cards.

I am playing Unicorns on Shiro Shinjo and one of my personalities has Chukandomo attached. This personality and my Stronghold are both bowed, and there is another personality with higher Personal Honor, so my personality will die. It's my turn now, and time for Straightening Phase. Am I able to unbow my Stronghold first, so when my personality dies, I can use the reaction to attach Chukandomo to another one of my personalities? Or will death occur before I have chance to unbow my Stronghold?

Well, the destruction has the same timing as your Straightening, so it really doesn't matter. By the time you have an opportunity to play Reactions after the Destruction, you'd have already straightened all your other cards and your stronghold.

Now I've always thought that the only effect of Enough Talk! is negating the action (or not negating, if the defender wins), but recently some of my friends told me that the duel was killing the looser. They said that negating the action is an additional effect, just like gaining honor from Iaijutsu Challenge, but since the card doesn't say what happens to the looser, it is a standard rulebook effect - death. Now all the duels which don't kill personality (Rage, Test of Might) have it written on the card, and Enough Talk! doesn't have such clause. Could anyone confirm or deny if Enough Talk! kills the looser?

Enough Talk doesn't specify anything else to do to the losing personality, so the default effect for being the losing personality in a duel applies: death.

Chieh question.

Can Chieh Exp. cast a spell at a battle that is created by an ambush? Even if the spell does not require the caster be in the battle, her trait makes her enter the battle, and Ambush says no one can enter except those in the battle.

No, it does not say that.

Ambush says, "No other units may assign or move to this battle."

Chieh XP is neither moving nor assigning, so this does not prohibit the effect of her trait.

A New Order versus Shrine of the Sun/Unexpected Strike

Can A New Order be ended by Shrine of the Sun or Unexpected Strike? If yes, what is the amount of honor necessary for a victory afterwards?

The increase is an effect of A New Order. It is on-going. Shrine of the Sun and Unexpected Strike end on-going effects of the Event, so it will remove A New Order's 10 point increase from the equation.

The honor required to win the game will be 40 +/- any modifications by effects that are still on-going in the game. Removing A New Order won't erase the increases from Far From the Empire, for example. You'd need another Shrine of the Sun for that.

Rules Senpet Scimitar gettin a Bonus for itself when being opposed

Is Senpet Scimitar Self referential in reference to gaining a bonus when opposed? I swear this was answered last week as Yes, but I can't find it anywhere in the rulings.

It can increase the Force Bonus its Personality received from having the Scimitar attached, yes.

But remember that it only works on bonuses that the personality receives while opposed. If you get the bonus while not opposed, it doesn't suddenly increase now that you are opposed. To get +5 rather than +4 out of your Scimitar, you'd have to attach it while opposed in battle.

3 quick questions

Can you use the ability on Wind cards that does not require discarding the Imperial Favor even if you don't have the favor (e.g. Underhand's Ability to prevent a samurai from attacking)?

Sure. Nothing on those abilities says you need the Favor.

My opponent casts Blessings of the Dragon on a dishonored Hitomi Daisetsu and I cast Force of Will on it switching his PH with his Chi. Does Daisetsu die, and if so how much honor does my opponent lose, 0, 2 or 4?

The honor lose from dying dishonorably is based on PRINTED Personal Honor. Daisetsu's printed Personal Honor is 2. Your opponent would lose 2.

Say I have a shadowlands personality (Voitagi for ex.) in play with Parasitic Oni and Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng (exp.). During battle my opponent uses Black Heart of the Empire on Voitagi. Does the unit now have:

Zero. That's what Black Heart does, and it is the most recent bonus / penalty effect on Voitagi.

So if Voitagi was opposing a Samurai, had Parasitic Oni, and the Mask, he'd have the following Force calculation:

4F base +2 from the Oni (6) +2 from the Mask being attached (8) +1 from the Mask trait (9) +2 from his trait (11)

Total = 11

Now someone drops Black Heart on him, moving him from 11 Force to 0 Force. That'll be a -11F penalty on Voitagi.

You can play more Force Boosts on him to raise his force. No matter what happens to his stats (stops being opposed, etc.), that big -11F penalty on him until Black Heart's effect wears off at the end of the turn.

Retribution vs Call to Arm

Hello, i would like to know if my oponent can play the reaction " Call to Arms" when i play a "Retribution" ?

Of course he can. You declared an attack and he's the defender. That creates a brand-new trigger for Call to Arms to be played.

A few completely unrelated rules questions..

I know you can overconfidence someone carrying a clan sword..but when a personality is gaining a force bonus from a item..is it considered to be constantly gaining the bonus

No. Once the effect hits the Personality, it is gained - past tense. It is an ongoing effect, but "is gaining" / gains" only happens when it - starts - affecting the Personality.

When a personality is attaching something that may only be attached a shadowlands card..and they use a card to temporarily give the card the shadowlands trait until the end of the turn....does the item get destroyed when the trait wears off? Or does it stay attached?

Not unless the card specifically tells you to do so. Cards don't get destroyed just because they couldn't legally attach to where they are currently attached. Only Ancestors have a special rule about that.

Mirimoto Satoe says that you can use her ability when a personality bows to cast a kiho...can you still use her ability if the bowing is prevented with a card like Takao's Jingasa?

Nope. They didn't bow, so no trigger occurred.

Superior Strategist, Tactical Actions in general

Do tactical actions that don't specify a "performing tactician" require you to have a tactician in the battle to perform the action? For example, can you just play superior strategist without any tactician at all? I was always under the impression that tactical actions required tacticians to perform them, but after looking in the rulebook it's not quite so clear to me.

Tactical Actions require a Tactician to perform. See also the Diamond Edition Rulebook Glossary, page 105,

line 1.

Outer Walls and Feign Death

1. If I target a ranged attack at my opponent's personality and he reacts with Outer Walls, can I then react with Tsuruchi Technique?? Or is it too late due to different timing on the Reactions??

I don't see the Reactions having any different timing. They both happen right before you resolve the Ranged Attack effect. They have the same trigger, so you can keep going around the table playing Tsuruchi Techniques and Outer Walls until everyone passes consecutively.

If I have a personality in play with a 'Once per turn' ability that I have already used this turn, and the personality subsequently dies and is brought back with Feign Death, can I use the 'Once per turn' ability again?? Or does the card remember that it has already used the ability that turn??

The card doesn't remember. The players remember. It isn't a new Personality or Ability. "Once per turn," still applies. If you've already used it this turn, you can't use it again. It doesn't matter where the card went off to in the mean-time.

3. Do 'until end of turn' effects wear off when a personality dies??

Not - when - a Personal dies, but they can wear off - while - a Personality - is dead -. If I give Kaiu

Hisayuki -2 Chi until the end of the turn, Feign Death will be pointless. He is still a 2 Chi Personality

with a -2 Chi penalty until the end of the turn. He'll come back as 0 Chi and die again.

But the effect WILL still expire at the end of the turn, even if Hisayuki is not in play anymore. If you

summon him back from the dead in another turn, he won't have the -2 Chi penalty from Written in Blood

anymore.

rules question

Can the Isawa House Guard unbow Shugenja after they bow as a result of:

A) Battle resolution or B) Being sent home from an action that sends the unit home bowed (for instance Block Supply Lines)?

No. The cards don't bow until they move out, and hence until they are no longer in an Army.

That looks like everything from Thursday that wasn't taken care of in-thread. If I missed your question from this day, please repost it with the flag "Rules" in the subject line and I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
