Rules for 27 August 2003
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Does this mean that in duels that produce honor gains Kisada's Shrine can't be used if the duel involves a personality with 'Toshimoko no Shiryo' because the action hasn't yet resolved fully?
No. At least, I don't think so.
I considered the archived ruling several times when I was thinking about the Toshimoko no Shiryo ruling. There were a couple of reasons behind making the ancestor ruling.
Because some duels create honor gains from a victory and some don't, if you followed that train of thought extremely literally, you would have to read each duel on a case by case basis. When possible, I like to be able to make *one* ruling instead of two or more. That was one reason for saying Kisada's Shrine was legit.
It also seemed to me to be more intuitive that the duel was over when the loser was in the ground, so to speak. Because Kisada's Shrine is played *after* a Personality is destroyed (card text), there isn't an obvious timing problem. If it prevented destruction, or was played during destruction, I'd definitely have ruled the other way.
It is a subtle point, and I'm sure the rest of the Rules Junta will let me know if they disagree. :)
