Rules for 8 July 2003

Zen Faulkes, sent 8 July 2003 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Greetings,

Rules for 7 July 2003

So I read that section and saw nothing about saving a triggered response.

You're so literal... ;) This is the one I was referring to: "Reactions played 'after' something occurs cannot played at an arbitrary time later that turn."

Playing the Ring isn't a Reaction, but there has been a long series of rulings that what I refered to as "triggered responses" (e.g., playing a Ring, committing seppuku as allowed by the rulebook) follow the same timing as Reactions.

Doesn't the ring allow you to play it at any time you have no other cards?

Not unless Jeff overrules me. :)

Also, the context of the original question, "An Event is revealed that will make me discard my Ring, can I 'beat the Event'?" I would like to extend that you can't play the Ring while another action is resolving to another action or an Event is resolving. That's not an official ruling, though, just my thinking out loud.

Rules for 7 July 2003 (TotEC)

Your post was in HTML. Please turn this off. See http://l5r.shorturl.com for resources on how to do this.

If I chose my champion, he issues the challenge to the other player; he does accept it with none of his personalities... My Champion survives, but he hasn't "survived" any duel: Do I gain 3 honours?

No (card text).

Do I get a new Province?

That's what the Archive says, which I quoted yesterday. Yes.

If some of my samurais enters de duel instead, which one has to leave the game; the champion or the one who enters the Duel?

The one initially picked (card text).

Rules for 7 July 2003 (Jade Arrow)

[Jade Arrow + strength increase + Stars Scatter]

Are you sure this works, Zen?

Yes. We had some discussions about this in the Rules Junta some time ago, and decided to leave it be. It's a stong combo, but there's lots of strong combos in Open.

I'll be stepping back to archiving duties for a while. Vaughn will be handling most of the routine Q&A for the next week or so, until we all leave for The Big Show, when nobody will answer any questions! Ha!
