A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
City of Gold question [Jeff]
Ahh, but according to the card text:
"Bow City of Gold after you bow a holding to produce gold, City of Gold produces 1 gold."
It says nothing about HOW LONG after you bow a holding to produce gold.
GE rulebook, page 48:
"You must take a Reaction as soon as its trigger occurs."
So you do, in fact, need to bow the City of Gold immediately after you bow one of your Holdings to produce Gold. Waiting to bow it later in the turn while paying for a different card would violate this rule.
The word "immediately" on Reactions would be redundant. "Before" means "immediately before." "After" means "immediately after."
Also, GE rulebook, page 38:
"You can bring only one card into play at a time; the Emperor taxes any excess Gold, and you lose it."
So the extra gold produced by a City of Gold cannot be spent on a different card any more than excess gold from the Holding it's reacting to can.
Shinjo Slings + Hiro and Dojo Raiden
Shinjo Slings Event All of your Followers gain a Sling token. For the rest of the game, Followers with one or more Sling tokens may, as a Battle action, destroy a Sling token without bowing to preform a Ranged 2 Attack.
Tsuruchi Hiro All Followers attached to Hiro that can produce Ranged Attacks have +1 Ranged Attack strength. All other Followers attached to Hiro gain "Battle: Bow for a Ranged 1 Attack."
Dojo Raiden Open: Bow Dojo Raiden to increase all numerals on all Followers attached to a target Mantis Clan Personality by 1 and give those Followers the Naval Trait.
-------------------------------------------------------
Now here's the question...
Do Hiro and Dojo Raiden increase the strength of the Ranged Attacks on the Sling tokens?
Hiro does. Followers with Sling tokens are "Followers that can produce Ranged Attacks". ["Smart Cards" ruling]
Dojo Raiden does not. Possessing a Sling token does not add an ability or any text to the Follower for the dojo to modify.
Question regarding Show of Good Faith and Turn of Fate.
If you use Show of Good Faith to steal a shugenja from another player for a turn and attach Turn of Fate and use it, the shugenja goes into your provice after destroying all cards attached. (Which I assume would go to each card's owner's discard piles?)
Nope. When a card is destroyed, it goes into its current controller's discard pile. [GE p. 60]
What happens:
1) If you buy the shugenja during that dynasty phase - they should still remember that they go "home" at the end of the turn, so they'd wander back to the player that originally had them, right?
Right.
2) If you don't buy them immediately, they'll stick around in your province indefinately, correct? (The Show of Good Faith won't return them to your opponent from your province, any more than it would return them to your opponent from the honorable dead pile.)
Correct.
3) Assuming 2 is true, you buy the shugenja next turn, or later - has the Show of Good Faith worn off, so the shugenja will stay with you indefinately?
Yes.
Rehonoring via attachment
A game with my wife last night encountered a strange question: one of her dishonored human personalities attached Moto Steeds, for which she paid with Eye of the Needle. Was the Personality "involved" in the honor gain?
No.
Tireless Assault (Jeff)
This is splitting hairs, but can a unit that is partially bowed use Tireless Assault?
Absolutely.
Shiba Yobei (Jeff)
"Add a Void token to Yobei after each time a Spell action that targets him resolves."
What is a "Spell action"? Is it an action that creates a Spell Effect (i.e. spell or kiho), or is it a Spell only?
It is an action on a Spell card. He does not get Void tokens from kihos.
