Asako Yayu and Light a Candle...

I got to ask about this combo....

Light a Candle: "Limited: Bow this Shugenja, who may remain bowed. While this Shugenja remains bowed and in play, your Personalities gain +1C" Can Yayu bow to use Light a Candle to give everyone +1chi bonus, then bow the spell to give an additional +1chi bonus.

No.

No Hiding Place

No Hiding Place Reaction: Play before producing a Ranged Attack from exactly one of your attacking cards in the current battle to target a card in the defender's home with the Ranged Attack. The Ranged Attack has -1 strength.

Whistling Bulb Arrow Reaction: Bow and destroy whistling bulb arrow before this personality makes an uncombined ranged attack. The personality makes an additional consecutive ranged attack afterward, with a strength equal to this attack's base strength.

I was wondering about the timing of these two cards since they both trigger before the RA actually happens. Can I play No Hiding Place first, then the Arrow? I figure it was one RA at first so it fulfills the "from exactly one of your attacking cards" clause then it forks into two afterwards.

So which outcome can I play: No Hiding Place then Arrow? a) shoot 2 different units in his fief b) shoot 2 cards in the same unit in his fief

c) shoot one target in the Defender's home and then one opposing target, since the Whistling Bulb Arrow's shot does not acquire the targeting choices of the original shot.

* and what RA strength are these shots? can I override the -1 penalty for the second shot since the Arrow specifically says "with a strength equal to this attack's BASE strength"?

The Bulb's shot is not at -1.

Arrow then No Hiding Place?

If you use the Arrow first, you can play the No Hiding Place before either the original shot or the Arrow shot. In either case, it will retarget only that one ranged attack.

last wish question

Can the return attack, destorying one of your cards, be used to destory the last wish if it is attached to Bayushi Shixiang?

Yes. The destruction is an effect of the Wish card, regardless of who picks its target. Since the Wish is your card, Shixiang's trait does not protect it from destruction.

L5R Rules questions

Hi Jeff,

Could you paste your answers to these in your next convenient rules posting?

Cheers,

Gordon

1. Faith in my Clan vs Rallying Cry.

I have two provinces left, A and B. My opponent declares an attack at Province A, I assign my defenders, including my Clan Champion to province B.

Scenario 1: My opponent resolves his battle at Province A first, after which he attempts to play Rallying Cry. Am I correct in saying that I can cancel it with my FimC as my Champ is in an army at Province B?

You are.

Am I also right in saying that my opponent cannot cancel it with a Fall on Your Knees as it is not a reaction during battle, but after?

You are.

Scenario 2: My opponent resolves the battle at province B first, with my Champion in it. Then to province A. I know that during the battle at A, my Champ counts as being in an army at B and therfore can use FimC (as well as suptacs in etc.), but at what point do the defenders return home? If my opponent plays Rallying Cray after that battle, have my defenders returned home at that time, or can I still play FimC to cancel it?

The Defender's own Personalities do not return home until the entire attack is over. They are still in defending armies after their battles have resolved. You can play Faith in my Clan after Province A's battle.

And again, can my opponent cancel it with a Fall?

No.

2. Inner Fire and self-referential abilities

I have Tsuruchi Okame in play. In battle he performs his Ranged Attack. I then straighten him with Inner Fire. Am I correct in saying I can now activate his ability to gain +2F?

You are correct. That ability neither targets him nor requires bowing to perform.

Bandit Hideout

Do the effects of the Bandit Hideout stack?

Yes.

For example, I have a marketplace and a port in play and my opponent has 3 bandit hideouts in play, as a Crane do both of my holdings now produce 0 or do they only produce 1 less?

3 less, which would be 0 in both cases.
