Jeff Alexander, sent 22 March 2002 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Shiryo no Yoritomo

A horribly outdated question, I'm sure, but does this ancestor allow me to pay more than 2 gold (cumulative) as a battle action to raise the personality's force by one (e.g. I pay 10 gold, it raises F by 5), or do I perform one separate battle action for each force?

One separate Battle action for each 1F boost. Each action costs 2 Gold, and as always, if you produce more, the excess is lost.

Arrow Knows the Way, hopefully.

Got a question here. It's probably no, but going to ask anyway. Cascading Fire and The Fire from Within. When bowing for the two consecutive ranged attacks. And Arrow Knows The Way is played along with the ranged attacks, can both of the two consecutive ranged attacks target personalities with followers attached?

No. Only one. But it can be any of them.

Naserus Stregnth question

Not political. On purpose?

Not Political. On purpose.

rules question...

Want to make sure of something with Iswa Riake/Tomo as I can't seem to remember the ruling that mentioned a few days ago. During a battle Riake/Tomo doesn't have to be assigned to a battle to use the ability of moving a personality correct? I do however have to have a personality at the battle I move the personality to right? If not can you please tell me correct way to play her/him.

There's nothing in Riake's ability that requires her to be in the current battle every single time, but you do have to satisfy the rules of Presence and Relevance, and there are situations where one of those will require Riake herself to be present depending on exactly which unit you're trying to move and where.

The Rule of Presence says: you have to have a unit in the current battle either before the action starts or after it finishes.

The Rule of Relevance says: the action has to come from, target, or affect something in the current battle.

With Riake, there are three distinct cases that come up:

1. You have no one in the current battle. 2. You have one or more units in the current battle, but the Riake you're using is somewhere else. 3. The Riake you're using is in the current battle.

In Case #1, the only legal use for Riake is to move one of your own units into the current battle from another one.

In Case #2, you can move a unit belonging to any player between the current battle and one of the other battles.

In Case #3, you can move a unit belonging to any player from any battle to any other battle.
