Thunders/Shrine of the Spirit's
Hey all two q's
1) Do cards that affect the Thunders (e.g. The Hooded Ronin Exp.) affect all expierience versions of the Thunder?
2) The line on Shrine of the Spirits that says "Your events do not resolve." does mean that they have no effect instead of they take effect again every event phase?
When you turn one face up, nothing happens. It does not even deny the Event to any other players later in the game.
Rules Question
Someone over there -- besides yourself -- is using Sympathetic Energies to move a -2F Change token from a Mara to a Toturi the First, pointlessly. More pointlessly, you want to interfere, and you bow Bantaro to intercept that spell effect. Bantaro has no tokens on him. What can/will happen?
a) Bantaro is a legal donor, but has no token to donate. You declare him the donor, but, having no token, nothing happens. You laugh, making the other player feel small. b) Bantaro is not a legal donor, so you cannot declare him a target at all. So there. c) Bantaro is not a legal donor, but is a legal recepient, so you could move the -2F Change token to him, for some perverse reason. But that's all you could do. d) None of the above; I should learn to deduce better options.
c)
Scenario the Second*
As the above, but Bantaro has a Conspiracy token (more old school). a) You could choose to move the Conspiracy token, but the user of Sympathetic Energies would choose the target to receive the token. b) The user of Sympathetic Energies, noting that Bantaro is a "target" but is not clearly defined to be a specific target, laughs (making you feel small) and moves the -2F token onto Bantaro.
Obviously, this sort of thing can come up with the Ring of Air, too.
Bantaro gets to change one targeting decision. Sympathetic Energies targets one token and two Personalities under Gold Edition rules; in general, Bantaro could change one of those two Personality targets. By the nature of Sympathetic Energy's effect, though, he can't swap himself in as the source of the moving token, so he can only be the new recipient. He also can't change which token gets moved.
Does it matter whether a trait or Reaction produces gold to be called a "gold-producing holding"?
No.
And, this is not a rules question as such, but the rules now say that if a Personality undergoes an Oath of Fealty (originally not being of your clan) and overlays an Experienced version (the latter not being of your clan), the Experienced peep now has your clan trait. How long has this been so?
A very long time. The gaining of your clan trait was, after all, a permanent change, just like the +1/+1 bonus.
I remembered that traits (like clan alignment) always leave, though permanent changes (like the +1/+1) stay. And I wondered about the reason for the change (even though I'm very much aware that it isn't a big deal for most).
It was changed, or rather clarified, since the two rules you recall are mutually exclusive. Permanent changes stay but traits are lost, so what happens to permanently changed traits? They can't both remain AND leave.
And, finally, if the Doji Plains hits a Quarry and an opponent removes tokens from the Quarry to produce gold, will the production thereof be doubled?
Yes.
Toturi Miyako Question
Simple question for you good folks. If I am using Miyako to duel someone and I focus a Strike of Flowing Water(FV3) then focus a 4 focus card, then strike how much will her chi bonus be? In other words, will the strike of flowing make the 4 an 8 then will Miyakos trait make the 8 into a 16?
It would make it an 8 that adds twice, to provide a total bonus of 16.
Also, what would the outcome be if she has double chi?
You would have a card with an 8 focus value that adds three times, for a bonus of 24.
Comments for 16 January
Now, Hataki should fall under the 'partial effects' ruling that flip-flopped all over the place last year (the 'go home, bowed' effect vs. an Armor of Earth wearer). How did this rule finally end up?
Going home bowed is the only exception to the "all effects are separate" rule.
Tricky rules question [JEFF]
A rather tricky rules situation came up recently. Looking at the rulings, we can see among others :
<< Ambush *Creates an Attack Phase, in which the first 3 segments are handled by Ambush. [ZF, 8 June 2000] *Is considered to be declaring an attack. [DW, e-mail, 11/5/98] *The units are considered to be assigning. [DW, e-mail, 11/5/98]
My question is : how does Ambush interact with Shosuro Yasuko ? Maybe I'm reading things wrong, but the first and third segment are more or less opposite, neh ? I'd be tempted to say Yasuko has no say in the matter since the assignment is taken care of by Ambush, and the card makes the battle begins imediately. BUT since per ruling ambush IS declaring an attack, and, more importantly, the units ARE considered to be assigning, she should by card text have a right to interfere, which seems somehow wrong.
How do both cards interact, can Yasuko be used at all, and if so, when exactly ? After an Ambush is declared ? Before or after targets are chosen ? If after, what happens ?
Duly forwarded to the Rules Team.
MRP Counterattack
I know this new way of working is probably more intuitive to most player, and this is probably why the change was made. Still, it would be nice if functional changes made by MRP were signaled in the corresponding rulebook
Take another look at page 80.
