Gold cardlist - Shahai
<< We could MRP it as Unique, but MRPing cards purely for storyline reasons has, in my opinion, caused more harm than good in the past, and it's something I've tried to avoid entirely in Gold Edition.
If this is the case, can you explain Daidoji Hachi to me, please? Surely he was not *so* good with the Iron Fortress that he was MRP'd in order to balance him. After all, he made the Stronghold playable - but without him, the Iron Fortress appears to be a complete waste of cardboard. What happened?
Daidoji Hachi wasn't MRPed. His "Soul of..." card is a new card. Text on it doesn't affect the original from which it was templated. This case isn't like Togashi Hoshi, who lost the Dragon Clan trait whether you played him in a Jade-legal deck or not.
Rules for 9 July 2001 / Face of Fear and Mirumoto Hitomi/Temoru.
Mirumoto Hitomi has the trait "Followers in this unit are immune to Fear," so that The Face of Fear, which affects the Personality as if s/he were a follower, has no effect on her. Mirumoto Temoru says "Temoru's followers are immune to Fear." Does this mean that he is not immune, as he is not his own follower?
Face of Fear says to treat the Personality "as if he were a Follower." What's implied is, "as if he were a Follower *in this unit*." So for purposes of Face of Fear, yes, treat Temoru as if he were leading himself. Or following himself. There's great yin/yang symbolism in this ruling. ;)
I'm going to overrule you, Zen. I think it's ambiguous: "Temoru's Followers" could be interpreted as either "Followers in Temoru's unit" or "Followers attached to Temoru". I believe the latter reading is more natural, which means he, himself, would not count.
This is a REVERSAL.
Enemy of My Enemy Again (Was Re: [L5RINFO] replies to the 6 June digest)
Just wanted to ask again about Enemy of My Enemy and Samurai followers, because what Jeff says above seems to contradict Zen's earlier ruling on this question. If Fear does not target every card in the unit,
Fear does not target every card in the unit. Fear targets the unit (and thus, implicitly, targets the Personality) and then *affects* certain Followers in it.
I would imagine that using the Favor to send someone home also does not hit every card in the unit.
You imagine correctly.
Now, if a unit led by a shugenja has Samurai Warriors in it, the Personality is not immune to being targetted by the opponent, and from what Jeff stated above, it doesn't sound as though the Favor is going to look at each follower and decide it can't be used. Possibly the Favor operates a little differently than Fear?
It does not.
Rules: Takuan Exp [Zen/Vaughn/Jeff]
Zen has got the rulings right on this and related cards now. The phrase "this battle" mandates the card's presence.
