Rulings for 11 Jan 2001
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Two questions concerning O'Ushi Sensei
1. Does the Sensei change Duells to Force for both Combatants od will it be a duell with the opponents Chi against my Force?
Only your own duelist will use Force as the base and add focuses to Force.
2. Can the Sensei be used on altering actions as Poisoned weapon for example?
Not Poisoned Weapon, no, because Poisoned Weapon does not target your Personality.
This raises a question, though. The Archive states that spell removal or destruction is *always* a cost of casting spells. Is shugenja destruction always a cost, too -- regardless of the card wording?
Not "regardless of the card wording," no. They'd have to be taken on a case-by-case basis. Did you have any particulars in mind?
Dark Path of Shadow Rules Question
The SH states that other players card effects and your ninja cards to not cause you to loose honor.
"Your non-Personality Ninja cards enter play for 2 less Gold. You cannot lose Honor from opponents' card effects or your Ninja cards."
If the DPS player Breaches someone and that someone redirects the honor loss using Winds Truth, would the DPS player take the honor loss?
The ninja player and I both say no because the redirection of Winds Truth is a card effect. Are we right?
The Ninja player would suffer the loss, because the source is still the Breach of Etiquette, which was his own non-Ninja card. Altering the amount, nature (loss vs. gain), or recipient of a loss or a gain does not change its source.
Lessons of Honor and Togashi Mitsu
Another Questions that came to me:
If Togashi Mitsu has Fire Tokens and Bows due to Lessons of Honor that allows him to remain bowed. Can I keep him bowed and dont loose fire tokens on him?
Yes. Mitsu loses a fire token each time he tries to straighten during a Straighten Phase (provided he's bowed and has fire tokens, of course). Anything else that prevents him from straightening, including voluntarily keeping him bowed, will stop the token loss.
Rules for
1. Shinsei's Riddle & Blessings of Isawa & Night Medallion
If Shinsei's Riddle is to become attached to a personality by the Blessings (my fav event ;), how does the 'discard this card' clause interact with this attachment? If the attachment is legal, again how is the 'discard this card' clause handled when using the ability - ie: is the attached Kiho card then discarded?
No, the personality is. Once the Kiho becomes an ability of the personality, the 'this card' part of it becomes self-referential, hitting the personality instead of the kiho. So, upon the next use of Shinsei's Riddle, the caster goes off to look for the solution.
What if you use one of these ever-returning personalities and a Meishodo Amulet? Do they go away, find the solution, and come back?
No. Shinsei's Riddle uses the term "discard from play", which means it -- or whatever card its ability finds itself on -- gets completely removed from the game. There's no way back from that.
One more rules question and that will do me for a while
Was discussing the old Yoritomo with Night medallion trick with someone recently and they mentioned some ruling that says that a personality cannot have more than 2 weapons. I tried looking for this but couldn't find it so am just wondering if it exists at all?
It does not exist.
Come One at a time
I realize that this has already been discussed earlier, but I can't seem to find the email regarding it, and I really need to know.
The forthcoming MRP on Come One At A Time...is that MRP in affect now, or do we wait for it in Gold?
There can't be a Most Recent Printing until there's actually a printing.
HOWEVER, in this particular case, the MRP text was also released, early, as errata, and errata takes effect as soon as it's issued (more or less).
