Movement and Kyuden Kitsune Exp.

L5R CCG Rules board, 4 August 2012 to 5 August 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 4 August 2012

I am playing Kyuden Kitsune Exp. and my opponent is playing Scorpion Ninjas. He attacks at provinces A and B, and I defend at Province B. He chooses to begin from the battle at Province A, and plays Asset Denial to move one if his Ninjas from province A to Province B. This is negated by my stronghold's trait. Then, he uses his stronghold and moves one of his Personalities from the battlefield to his home. The battle at Province A ends, and we proceed to engagement at Province B.

The question is: If he uses an action that moves one of his units to Province B (Ring of Water, Help from the Shadows, whatever), will the movement be negated? Is the Stronghold's trait relevant to the duration of each battle, or is it a matter of battlefields (since one movement to Province B has already been negated, all other movement to Province B is allowed freely)? If so, could he move anyone to Province A after playing Asset Denial (while we were at the first battle)?

I believe it's the former, but I would like to be sure.

Kyuden Kitsune Your forests are maddening. Negate the first movement each battle into attacking armies at your provinces' battlefields from other players' actions.

In the scenario described, yes; the movement would be negated.

Is the Stronghold's trait relevant to the duration of each battle, or is it a matter of battlefields (since one movement to Province B has already been negated, all other movement to Province B is allowed freely)?

Emphasis mine, in your quotes above and below.

[C]ould he move anyone to Province A after playing Asset Denial (while we were at the first battle)?

Again, in the example you gave, yes he could.
