Kyuden Kitsune and Spell Rehonoring

L5R CCG Rules board, 7 July 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Here's my question: I have a Shugenja and I'm playing Kyuden Kitsune. He has a spell attached that has the Forest trait. He is also dishonored. I bow his spell on my turn to "gain 1 honor".

According to the rules, before a player gains one or more points of honor from an action .. that targeted (it didn't come from the personality, nor was it performed as the action has no 'performed' wording) one of his dishonorable personalities .. the Honor gain does not occur and the Personality .. are rehonored.

But here's the problem, when reading this rule literally, there is no "performed" on the ability. I see nowhere in the comprehensive rules where it says that targeting a spell also targets its' personality. Nor do I see anywhere that indicates targeting an attachment is the same as the personality performing it. So this action is not targeting the personality, and it's not being performed by the personality.

Therefore I concluded that the shugenja stays dishonored, and I gain 1 honor instead. Is that correct?

Before a player gains one or more points of Honor from an action or trait that targeted, came from, or was performed by one or more of his or her dishonorable Personalities, if rehonoring the Personalities is not one of that action or trait’s effects, the dishonorable Personalities' rehonoring is substituted for the Honor gain; that is, the Honor gain does not occur and the Personality or Personalities are rehonored.

Limited: Bow your target Forest: Gain 1 Honor.

Correct indeed!
