Per Open Warfare's text, the Stronghold cannot produce Gold from any of its traits or abilities in its text box, but it CAN produce Gold from its Gold Production stat.
Gold Production is a stat of a Stronghold, neither an ability nor a trait, and it is the Rulebook/CR which explain that having this stat allows it to produce Gold when paying a Gold cost.
