A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
A player, 10 May 2012
Rukota's ability reads:
Reaction: After the resolution of a battle, or an action or trait from a card that another player owns, if the resolution or card destroyed Rokuta: Create a 0F/2C/1PH Scorpion Clan • Courtier • Apprentice Personality (in your home). Choose a player, who looses 3 Honor.
Question is: Can rokuta react when he is destroyed by a trigger outside the Attack phase?
For example, my opponent plays Mysterious Death and I choose Rokuta. Is it a legal trigger since it was an action from a card that another player owns?
Or should I read her reaction this way:
Reaction: After the resolution of a battle, or an action or trait from a card DURING A BATTLE that another player owns, if the resolution or card destroyed Rokuta: Create a 0F/2C/1PH Scorpion Clan • Courtier • Apprentice Personality (in your home). Choose a player, who looses 3 Honor.

Yes, Rokuta can React to Mysterious Deaths.
There's no grammatic basis for you to infer the text you added should be there; "After the resolution of a battle, or an action or trait..." parses to "After the resolution of a battle, or [after the resolution of] an action or trait..."
