A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Regarding this:
"Imperial Gift's selection is not optional - if there is an item in your deck, you must take it."
There's a ruling setting a precedent in CE where you could choose to not select any card. See this ruling for a situation where searching for a card wasn't optional (Planned Adversity) but Alex said that you could choose to not select any such card and just shuffle the deck.
Also, can I fail to find a holding to put into play even if I have one in the deck and can pay for it? Sometimes I just want to shuffle my dynasty deck. You can, but you can't then search that deck for that sort of card.
Is that ruling still valid under EE rules?

The CR on Search has been updated. You no longer need to choose a card even if you find one.
