Is discarding a ring to its ability the same as it entering play for the purposes of Introspection?

Is discarding a ring to its ability the same as it entering play for the purposes of Introspection?
No.
In that case, it never enters play. The cost of its ability that discards it from your hand sends it directly from there to the discard pile.
