Temples of Gisei Toshi - what does "you may" mean?

L5R CCG Rules board, 3 March 2012 to 4 March 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hi, I have a question regarding the action on the Temples of Gisei Toshi. Do words "you may" refer only to showing the cards or also to putting them in my hand? In other words, If I chose to not showing the card I've just found, am I still allowed to put it in my hand or am I not?

Limited: Bow this card: Name "Follower", "Item", or "Spell". Look at the top four cards of your Fate deck. You may show one of those cards that is of the type you named, then put it in your hand.

The "you may" clause here applies to everything that comes after it. You may show the card and put it in your hand, or you may choose not to show a card, in which case you do not put anything in your hand.
