A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

shosuro toson:

Reaction: After engaging at Toson's battlefield: Discard a card from the current battlefield's province. If this discarded a Personality, you have the first oppurtunity to take a Battle action in this battle, which must be performed by Toson.

Okay, let's say I'm attacking and I use react with naval to engaging... can my opponent then react to engagement with toson's ability to "steal" the first opportunity to react or pass? if he can, can I play a sneak in order to "steal" it back?

I'm sorry if its been answered but I couldn't find it anywhere

In this case, Naval changes the game state to allow the Attacker to take the first action. Toson changes the game state to allow the Defender to take the first action. Sneak Attack now changes the game state to allow the Attacker to take the first action.

Unlike the other question regarding using Naval then Sneak Attack, in this case there is no restriction on what can be played off the Sneak Attack, as it is not multiple opportunities attempting to stack and failing. Sneak Attack applies fully.
