A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

This came up in a recent game and I wanted to check for sure. During my Actions phase for my first 2 actions I play 2 non-kiho Strategies. For my 3rd action I play Ambush. During the course of the battle created by Ambush I played a 4th non-kiho action and tried to drop Ring of the Void. My opponent thought that Ambush created an Attack Phase and it was no longer the same phase as stipulated by Ring of the Void so the previously played non-kihos during Actions Phase didn't count anymore. I countered this saying that Ambush unlike just for example Retribution does not say Create an Attack Phase, just simple says Create a battlefield and therefore it was still the Actions Phase and it did count for Void.
I wanted to ask here and find out for certain which of us was right.

Ambush - Limited: Choose your performing unbowed Personality and target another player's Personality: Create a battlefield (not at any province). Assign your Personality to attack there. Assign the target to defend there, even if he is bowed. Other Personalities will not move there. Fight a battle there (after this action's resolution). After the battle ends, lose 5 Honor.
