Base Abilities (Strike Quickly + Fukuzo XP)

L5R CCG Rules board, 21 November 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

If Fokuzo copies an ability from a personality with a Battle action can I use Strike Quickly to use the ability?

Fukuzo XP Open: Remove a target Personality in any player's discard pile from the game: Fukuzo wears his skin. Until the next time this game this ability is used, Fukuzo copies one keyword, and one ability that does not itself copy abilities, from the Personality.

Strike Quickly Battle: If you are the Defender, choose your performing unbowed Personality: Move him to the current battefield. You may take an additional Battle action to use one of his base abilities. After the additional action ends, or you choose not to take it, move him home.

Secondary Question: If I use Arrival of the Obsidian Champion on Daigotsu Sahara XP, is the new 10 Force he is set to considered his "base force?"

Daigotsu Sahara XP Sahara uses his base Force as his duel stat.

Arrival of the Obsidian Champion Open: Lose 3 Honor. Dishonor your target Personality with a Gold Cost of 9 or higher. Permanently set his Force to 10 and his Chi to 2. Permanently give him Shadowlands and the ability, “Fear Battle: Bow each Follower with 4 or less Force in a target unit.”

Thanks

The answer to both questions is no, per the glossary: "Base" refers to a stat, keyword, ability, or trait that exists on a card or other entity as printed (following the most recent printing) or initially created, without modifications from effects. A stat’s base value will not change.
