Cultist Infiltrator - performing equip to enemy?

L5R CCG Rules board, 25 October 2011 to 26 October 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

This refers to the promo card Cultist Infiltrator, and how it relates to performing with the rule-book action.

Cultist Infiltrator: Follower, 3 force, 3 gold You may attach this card to a Personality you do not control. This card may not be transferred. After each Straighten Phase: Give this Personality a -1C token.

(from the war of honor rulebook, which to my knowledge is the most recent printing of CE based rules, being the demo decks for EE at gencon are more recent but not CE) Limited: Any number of times per turn, choose your performing Personality: Attach a target attachment card from your hand to him.

So, if you choose your performing personality, but the trait on cultist infiltrator says that can be the enemy, does that mean you can force the enemy to perform the equip action? Triggering such cards as "minor blackmail"?

I went to rules.l5r.com to copy the rulebook action and discovered it says this: Limited: Any number of times per turn, target one of your Personalities: Attach a target attachment card from your hand to him.

which is the pre-plague war performing by targeting your guy between the colons, which if you stuck to the wording would mean now that its an enemy its not performed. Would this change when playing in WoH? It seems confusing how the trait "you may attach this card to a personality you do not control" doesn't specifically refer to the rulebook action, suggesting to me that perhaps the rule-book action doesn't even apply and it attaches to enemies as not an action via trait somehow without a trigger. I would dismiss it as "it applies in emperor edition not in celestial" except its got the celestial bug, and so by golly I want to use it before celestial is over.

This isn't intended to be a war of honor question, which is why its in the normal CCG section, I just use it as a reference and its wording is what prompted me to have it clarified. I don't have my battle of Kyuden Tonbo rulebook in front of me, but I thought it was worded as "choose your performing" as well wasn't it? Anyway the question simply is "can cultist infiltrator be attached to enemy personalities by the rulebook equip action, and if so is it still performed?"

(( if this already exists, I'm sorry. I tried searching but got a SQL error with " Table './alderac_forum/phpbb_posts' is marked as crashed and should be repaired [145] " and I couldn't find a thread on it by manually reading titles ))

Can cultist infiltrator be attached to enemy personalities by the rulebook equip action(?)

Yes.

(I)f so is it still performed?

No. http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_P-Q#Perform: "A Personality or Follower is performing an action if its controller is the player taking the action". The Personality's controller is not taking the action here. so it isn't performed.
