Actions, Keywords and conditional gold production.

L5R CCG Rules board, 9 September 2011 to 10 September 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hurrah, first post back since being sent to the gulag!

So I saw this, and just for clarification...

Actions that are printed on Magistrate Personalities that have gold costs will trigger the extra gold production from Magistrates Stipend based on that previous ruling though, right? Like: Yoritomo Singh, and Yoritomo Tatsuhiko? (grumble, grumble... Mantis, grumble... )

Which, brings up a separate issue...

I know from accumulated rulings that you can bow the Imperial Artificers to over-pay for otherwise free followers. Is the same true for abilities printed on Personalities/attachments where no Gold cost is specified? I think the answer is no, based on the idea that l5R is a permissive rule set(i.e. the rules tell you what you are permitted to do, not what you are restricted from doing). Since unlike abilities on Strategy cards and cards created by other abilities (that have a 0 gold cost), no such default Gold cost value exists for these actions. So no opportunity to pay a cost that doesn't exist.

Ahhh, it is good to be back!

Correct.

Indeed. See Costs and restrictions, Gold production: It is permitted to overpay a Gold cost by any amount, including producing Gold to overpay a Gold cost of zero on (for example) a Strategy card. It is not permitted to pay Gold to bring into play a card with no Gold cost stat (such as a Ring or Region), or for an action with no Gold cost on a non-Strategy card (such as a Personality or Follower).
