Bestial Rage and Fu Leng's Guidance

L5R CCG Rules board, 10 May 2011 to 14 May 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

My question is one of timing. Let's assume i am playing Oni, I have Fu Leng's Guidance in play, it is my opponents turn, and I just played Enticement and stole "Samurai X" ... whose stats will not matter for this discussion.

My opponent attacks, and I defend with an Oni, and the enticed Samurai, at the province being attacked.

My question is then this.......

I know I can play Bestial Rage, destroying the Samurai and giving tokens to my Oni. This also will protect my Oni from Bow and Move effects now. But, can I then react with Fu Leng's Guidance and take permanent control of the Samurai that was just destroyed by the battle action?

Relevant Card texts....

Bestial Rage Battle/Open: Choose your performing unbowed Nonhuman Personality and destroy one of your Personalities at his location: Give your Nonhuman a number of +1F Frenzy tokens equal to the destroyed Personality's base Force. Negate the bowing and movement of your Nonhuman (this turn).

Fu Leng's Guidance Kami • Unique Shadowlands cards have +1F while opposed. Reaction: After the resolution of an action that destroyed another player's Personality during a battle, if you are a Spider Clan player, discard this card: Bring him into play, ignoring Gold cost and Honor Requirement, in your current army. Permanently give him Shadowlands and Undead.

Actually, Enticement's second effect, "Take control of a target Personality," gives you permanent control of the Personality; the delayed effect "Before this turn ends, give control of him to his owner" is what ends your control of him. This delayed effect is unaffected by the Personality's brief sojourn out of play: you must still return him to his owner before the end of the turn if you brought him into play with Fu Leng's Guidance.

Can you actually react with Fu Leng's Guidance? You control the personality at the moment.

Good point, you cannot react with Fu Leng's Guidance because the Personality was not "another player's Personality" at the time he was destroyed.

I was focusing on the "permanent control" aspect of the question, which would still apply if you returned the Personality to play with, say, Feign Death.
