Moshi Kalani exp trait and changing its conditions

L5R CCG Rules board, 17 February 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Moshi Kalani exp reads:

Mantis Clan • Samurai • Naval • Commander • Experienced • Unique Kalani has +1F for each other Naval card in his army. Battle: Even if Kalani is bowed: Target your Personality. If his unit assigned to the current battlefield, or if any enemy units are there, move him there. Straighten his unit if he moved.

I understand that cards that set force to zero take into account bonuses from traits, I got that from searching, but I couldn't find the answer to a specific example. Let's say that Kalani is opposing Utaku Fujiko exp. Fujiko exp has the following battle ability:

Battle: Reduce the Force of a target enemy Personality or Follower to 0. Draw a card.

Say Fujiko reduces Kalani's force to zero, and Kalani is in a battlefield with 3 other naval personalities. What if, after the force is set to zero, another naval personality moves into Kalani's battlefield? Would his force then be one or would it still be zero, or one? Additionally, if one of the naval personalities that was at the battlefield when his force was set is sent home and moves back in, would that also contribute? Thanks in advance!

Sorry if this was covered, I tried searching first.

Here's the bit of rules you want: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Card_features#S ... to_a_value

"To set a stat to a value, give it the smallest possible appropriate bonus or penalty (or the smallest possible gain or loss, for Honor) such that it reaches that value."

Setting force to zero is just a penalty and follows all the other rules for penalties. It is not permanent and can be changed by later bonuses or penalties.
