Lack of Vigilance and Naming a Card

L5R CCG Rules board, 14 February 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Kind of have curious question in regards to this discussion: http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=88914

what defines a "card" (sorry if this sounds stupid)? ex can i name Ace of Spades in regards to Lack of Vigilance or does it have to be an L5R legal card (not necessarily CE legal)?

If i have to name a legal card and i name a card that is not legal, ie leave off a "The" or "A" or some other slight title change, does this make the effect of the card null and void? I understand that naming the card is not a cost, so I can see naming the "wrong" card could make the card have the effect fail.

Hypothetically if there were a card like lack of vigilance but had name the card as cost and i incorrectly named the card i wanted, ie left off "A" or "The", thus not meeting the cost (assuming i didn't accidentally name another legal card in the process), would i have to name the correct (ie get another chance to name the card right since the costs have to be met)?

Really just wondering if we can have ruling or clarification on what defines "card" so that we can hopefully avoid potential bad outcomes with cards like Lack of Vigilance in the future (i'm prob just being a worry wart here )

Sorry, hopefully this questions are not too hypothetical or "murky", just trying to get some answers for this topic. Not trying to get you guys to make floor rulings here as i know its not your department. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

what defines a "card"?

The word has no technical definition in the rules and is just used in its normal English meaning.

Lack of Vigilance does not limit card names to any particular pool or set of cards.
