If I play a Ruthless Advance and my opponent changes my initial target to a unit with the same gold cost. Would I still be able to choose not to pay the cost?
Changing Targets and Same Gold Cost
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
If I play a Ruthless Advance and my opponent changes my initial target to a unit with the same gold cost. Would I still be able to choose not to pay the cost?
Here's a similar question on changing costs in the FAQ: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_FAQ#What_happen ... ld_cost.3F
Which reads in part, "the person paying the cost of Dramatic Assassination" -- or, by extension, Ruthless Advance -- "has the option to try to generate enough Gold to use on the new target but is not obligated to do so."

On the FAQ, the question refers to a unit who has a different gold cost than the original target. I just want to clarify that if my opponent changes the target of my action to a unit with the Same gold cost, would I still be able to choose not to pay the costs and discard the card?

Yes, per Interference with mandatory costs: When the basis for a cost that depends on targeting changes due to interference with targeting, this is treated the same way as interference with the payment of the cost.
