If a card doubles some value (like doubles the force of a card), is that the same thing as "setting" the stat to the new value and giving a bonus to the value?

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

To double the value of a stat means to give it a bonus (or a penalty for the rare stats that can be negative) equal to its current value when the effect is applied.
Does the focus effect on Low Stance cancel/negate/remove the doubling of a stat?

In other words, "Does doubling a stat give it a bonus?" As mentioned above in the answer above, yes. Something that doubles is giving a bonus and is negated by effects that negate bonuses.
