Greetings. I have a Kuronada (or any hero) attacking my opponents provice. He defends and uses Superior mobility which targets my Kuronada, then he reacts by playing his Cowed by wisdom to have Superior mobility destroy my Kuronada instead of sending it home.Do i still have the opportunity to react with my Strength of the Bamboo to save Kuronada from being destroyed by Superior mobility? Thanks!
Timing of Superior Mobility, Cowed by Wisdom, and Targetting
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Do i still have the opportunity to react with my Strength of the Bamboo to save Kuronada from being destroyed by Superior mobility?
No.
Strength of the Bamboo must be played immediately after Superior Mobility targets your Hero Personality (card text).
Cowed by Wisdom must be played immediately before Superior Mobility resolves (card text), which happens after the cost of bowing a card in the performing Personality's unit has been paid for Superior Mobility, which happens after this action targets your Hero Personality (see Abilities and actions).
As a consequence, when your opponent plays Cowed by Wisdom, it is always too late to play Strength of the Bamboo. However you would still have the opportunity to play another Reaction whose trigger is before Superior Mobility resolves, such as Hand of the Jade Dragon.
