Shosuro Oniji vs. Kolat Instigator

L5R CCG Rules board, 13 September 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I did search the rules forum and couldn't find my answer.

Shosuro Oniji 3F 4C - HR 7GC 1PH Scorpion Clan Poison Master • Ninja • Duelist • Ninjutsu 1 Reaction: Once per turn, after another player targets Oniji with an action: Target a Personality that player controls; the target must oppose Oniji if it is an Attack Phase. Oniji issues the target an unrefusable challenge.

Kolat Instigator 4GC 2FV Limited: Lose 2 Honor. Target a Personality who must issue a challenge to a Personality of his controller's choice. This challenge can be refused without penalty.

So can Oniji's reaction be used if Oniji is chosen to be challenged by the controller of Kolat Instigator's target? (phew)

In other words I guess, is the "Personality of his controller's choice" in K.Instigator a target of the action?

Thanks,

Jose

Yes.

Per Legacy Rules: "For cards printed prior to Dawn of the Empire: An action targets whenever it requires a choice to be made of what card it affects, or what card pays the non-gold costs of the action." (Citation)
