Clarification: The Last One vs. Chi Death, Daigotsu

L5R CCG Rules board, 10 August 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hey guys,

I tried to search for this topic as I swear it has been answered before. I couldn't find it though so I'm posting. (Apologies if this is a re-post)

The Last One Open: Target your Personality: Destroy all of your other Personalities. If this destroyed at least four Personalities, permanently give your targeted Personality +4F, and until the end of the game, negate effects of other player's actions that bow, dishonor, move, or destroy him.

Isawa Fosuta Spider Clan • Shadowlands • Shugenja • Inquisitor • Experienced • Unique • Onyx Champion After Fosuta enters play, Lose 8 Honor. Maho Open: Bow Fosuta: Lose 6 Honor. While Fosuta remains bowed, you may negate his straightening and, at the start of each turn, you may target a Personality and give him a -1F/-1C Curse token. After the next time this game Fosuta straightens or leaves play, destroy all Curse tokens.

Daigotsu Spider Clan • Shadowlands • Clan Champion • Samurai • Shugenja • Duelist • Experienced 3 • Loyal • Unique After Daigotsu enters play: Lose 40 Honor. Battle: Permanently give a target enemy personality with lower Chi Shadowlands. He succumbs to the Dark Lord's will. Take control of him (if you do so, he joins your army). If you now control him, destroy him after this battle ends.

First Scenario: Player A controls a target 3C Personality previously targeted with The Last One (destroying 4 or more Personalities) with 2 -1F/-1C tokens on it from Player B's Isawa Fosuta. What happens when the Personality targeted by The Last One has 0C, since Isawa Fosuta's ability is an action taken by another player that would destroy the personality? Or does Fosuta only apply the Chi penalty and the rulebook effect (rather than the action) destroy the personality?

Second scenario: Player A has a target Personality previously targeted with The Last One (destroying 4 or more Personalities). Player B controls Daigotsu in a battle against The Last One targeted Personality. Daigotsu's Battle action is taken to take control of The Last One targeted Personality. Since the action of destroying the Personality is technically another player's action (Personality targeted by The Last One belongs to Player A, the action to destroy is taken by Player B), does the Personality targeted by The Last One remain after this battle ends? Or does he get destroyed because he is now controlled by Player B and Player B's action is destroying him?

Thanks!

Anthony

Since the action of destroying the Personality is technically another player's action... does the Personality targeted by The Last One remain after this battle ends?

Yes.
