Relevant text from Dance of the Void:
"Battle: If this action is taken as an additional action, choose your performing Monk: Negate his next bowing or destruction from a card's effect this turn."
If I have a monk at a battlefield may I target him as a non-additional action to effectively do nothing (for purposes of Ring of Water or Void)?
If the answer is yes, what would be an example of the wording on a card that would -not- be able to be used unless it met that restriction (if that wording exists)?
Thanks

No. "If this action is taken as an additional action" is a condition for using the ability at all. See description of the constraints block: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Card_features#Abilities
