L5R CCG Rules board, 6 July 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Just clearing up a couple of things (someone asked me for an "official" answer, apparently I'M not good enough! )

Limited: Destroy one of your non-Unique Holdings: Search your Dynasty deck for a non-Unique Holding. Put the new holding into play (bowed).

1) Do you have to pay for the holding you search for? (I guess yes, since put into play and bring into play are the same basic thing?)

2) Are you able to pay for it with the holding you destroyed? (I guess no, since you destroy it way before you've even selected a holding to fetch)

Planned Adversity: Do you have to pay for the holding you search for?

Ooooh, here's a chance to bust out the newest entry to the FAQ I wrote up, simply titled, "Do I have to pay?" : http://rules.l5r.com/CE_FAQ#Do_I_have_to_pay.3F

"Q. Obfuscation allows me to attach a card from my hand, but doesn't say anything about costs. Do I have to pay for the attachment?

"A. Yes. The Empress wants her tax. You must pay to play unless the card effect specifically say you don't. For more, see Mandatory costs."

Are you able to pay for it with the holding you destroyed? (I guess no, since you destroy it way before you've even selected a holding to fetch)

Correct. You cannot.
