Snow-Swept Summit condition

L5R CCG Rules board, 29 May 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I would like to know how the condition of snow-swept summit must be understood.

Snow-Swept Summit Text: Winter • Terrain Battle: You may take this action even if you control no units at the current battlefield while any Cavalry units are there: Before this battle's resolution, reduce the Force of each Personality and Follower at the current battlefield to 3.

Does this mean that I can play it even if there is no Cavalry present (on any side), but that I then need presence? Or does it mean that it can't be played at all unless some Cavalry is present on the battlefield?

Yes. The condition on Snow-Swept Summit is one that allows you to play it without obeying the Rule of Presence, but you are only allowed to do so if Cavalry units are present. You may otherwise play it normally.
