Kaneka's Blockade and "Different Wind"

L5R CCG Rules board, 13 May 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A Legacy question concerning the Event "Kaneka's Blockade":

Target a player who has a different Wind than you. Discard six cards from that player's Fate deck. Discard three cards from your Fate deck for each other player that has the same Wind as you. Discard this Event without resolution if you have no Wind.

Assume that I have a Wind (any one, it doesn't matter) in play and my opponent has no Wind in play. Am I correct in assuming that, if I target my opponent per the Event, it would have no effect, because "no Wind" isn't the same as "a different Wind"? I tried searching through these forums and the old rulings for this card, but the only one I found (in the Rules Archive) specifies that the discarded cards have to come from the top of the deck. Just want to make sure. Thanks!

You are more or less correct. Technically, you couldn't even target your opponent because he doesn't meet the targeting criteria.
