The Trap is Sprung! vs Kuon

L5R CCG Rules board, 29 April 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Edit: Sorry for jumping the gun. This is about a preview card. ><

The Trap is Sprung! 0G Battle: If a Recon action has targeted the current battlefield's province this turn, choose your performing unbowed Scout Personality: Bow a target enemy card. Bow its unit if you are a Crane Clan player. "Entire units lost to the plague. Now we must fell our own brothers. Is there no end to this disgrace?" - Daidoji Akagi 2FV

Kuon's Trait: After the first time each battle another player's action targets Kuon: If he is the only Personality in his army, the action's (remaining) effects do not happen.

Over in the preview thread for TTiS people are saying it bypasses Kuon's trait if he has a follower and I don't see why. The way I understand it, the action would bow the attachment on Kuon and not Kuon, or the rest of his unit. I can see the issue, it doesn't say "target and bow that unit" and targeting is explicit as I understand it.

Assuming that's right, does this mean actions can effect cards without targeting them? It would follow then that Setting Sun Strike couldn't be used against TTiS either.
