Laying in Wait + Toritaka Okabe

L5R CCG Rules board, 14 April 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

If you are in a battle vs someone with a gold cost of 7 and have Toritaka Okabe in your army, can you use the laying in wait to do a ranged 7 against gold cost? I assume this ruling also pertains to basic ranged attacks from strategies (final duty) as well? Or is the targeting in Laying in wait what allows it to be played where Final Duty doesn't have a "performer"?

Toritaka Okabe - Crab Clan • Samurai • Scout Ranged Attacks from actions performed by cards in Okabe's army have +1 strength.

Laying in Wait - Battle: Target your unbowed Samurai: Ranged 3 Attack. Battle: Target your unbowed Samurai: Ranged 6 Attack whose strength is compared against Gold Cost instead of Force.

Final Duty - Battle: If your current army has lower total Force than the current enemy army: Ranged 6 Attack.

Yes.

The answer is "No" on that one, for (almost) the exact reason that you gave: (my changes are in brackets)
