Test of Sincerity vs Strength of the Bamboo

L5R CCG Rules board, 2 April 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hi there,

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find the topic. Can I play Strength of the Bamboo on a hero being targeted by Test of Sincerity, then chose its seppuku option instead of the dishonor option, and will that Hero then survive the seppuku?

Thank you!

You missed "Test of Sincerity+Strength of the Bamboo"; when using the search function, try to choose unusual words when titles allow it: here you could have used Sincerity and Bamboo to find that ruling.

Can I play Strength of the Bamboo on a hero being targeted by Test of Sincerity[?]

Yes it is a legal trigger: an action has just targeted your Hero Personality.

[...]then chose its seppuku option instead of the dishonor option, and will that Hero then survive the seppuku?

No the Hero's seppuku will destroy him (see below). Glossary, Seppuku: "If an effect directs a Personality to commit seppuku, apply the following effects: “Rehonor the Personality, then destroy him; these effects will not be negated.” (emphasis added)
