Mountains of the Phoenix & Gutobo

L5R CCG Rules board, 12 December 2009

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

if i recon a province with Gutobo's action and attack that province with my Goblins...

Recon Open: Target a province. Before this turn ends, bring into play each dead Goblin Personality you own who was destroyed during a Combat Segment at that province's battlefield this turn, ignoring Gold Costs.

and then play Mountains of the Phoenix...

Battle: Before this battle’s resolution, the Attacker and the Defender each choose a unit in their own army; the active player decides who chooses first. Then, destroy the chosen units.

if i target a goblin to destroy it for mountains of the phoenix, is it considered to have been destroyed during the Combat Segment? or during some other unknown phase between the two?

This is the oldest question about Mountains of the Phoenix in this forum: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=60213

No.

http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Timing#Triggers: "A trigger of 'after' one step in a sequence ends will happen prior to the trigger of 'before' the next step begins. Both triggers happen between the two steps.

"Example: A triggered trait with the trigger "after your Dynasty Phase ends" comes before a triggered trait with the trigger "before your End Phase begins,” and happens in neither phase." (Emphasis added.)

Searching the forum would have probably got you the answer faster than waiting for a rules guy to search the forum.
