Game of Sincerity + Essence of the East Wind

L5R CCG Rules board, 18 August 2009

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

If I use Game of Sincerity on a personality, then bow my personality for some action, then subsequently target him with Essence of the East Wind does he contribute force to his unit?

Game of Sincerity reads: Battle: Dishonor your target unbowed Personality: Dishonor a target Personality. His controller loses 2 Honor. Neither Personality contributes Force in this battle's resolution.

Essence of the East Wind reads: Battle: Bow this Shugenja: Your target bowed Personality contributes his Force during this battle's resolution even if bowed.

No.

Essence of the East Wind says the Personality contributes Force even if bowed. Bowing is the only state the card text overrules. It is not a "this Personality contributes force not matter what" card.
